1 Superhero Kids Fund 2017 Fourth Quarter Report (October 1 December 31, 2017) Children s Blood & Cancer Center at Dell Children s Medical Center of Central Texas Holidays Around the World Brought a fusion of celebrations from all over the globe to CBCC patients and families! Presented by Superhero Kids 1

2 Dear Superhero Kids, The highlight of every year for our patients and their families is our annual CBCC holiday party! This year was no exception! We received lots of positive feedback regarding how special and fun it was!! Thanks to Superhero Kids and a planning committee made up of staff and volunteers, the AT&T Executive Education & Conference Center hosted a transcultural holiday party of epic proportions! This year we had 541 attendees! The event included exciting entertainment by the Love of China School of Dance and the Brazilian Samba School, a live DJ, and dinner/activity stations representing different parts of the world (Mexico, Germany, India, North Pole, Texas, Russia. The crepes made by the Russian House restaurant were definitely a crowd favorite.) To sum it up, our families greatly enjoyed the numerous themes at the party and were grateful for the experience. Everyone felt right at home. THANK YOU for continuing to make our families holidays merry & bright with your support each December! 2

3 Survivor Challenge Thanks again for your continued support of Survivor Challenge. On Sunday, November 5, The CBCC team (compromised of patients, families, and volunteers) participated in the Run for the Water Race in downtown Austin. As always, we are so delighted to see the patients and families showing up week after week to finally close out their training with this important event. Along the way, they acquired healthy exercise habits and developed new friendships, determination and resilience. They couldn t do this without Superhero Kid s assistance! Flatwater Foundation A cancer diagnosis takes a toll on the entire family. With your help, the CBCC has been able to refer 25 families to the Flatwater Foundation for counseling and support. The Flatwater Foundation is dedicated to providing those diagnosed with cancer, their families, and loved ones access to mental health therapy and family support. This includes access to both traditional and non-traditional methods of psychological counseling. 3

4 Family Fun Night Our first annual Family Fun night was held this November at the Thinkery! It is an event intended to provide psychosocial support for children and families receiving care through the Neuro-Oncology program at the CBCC and to foster community amongst them. Superhero Kids generously catered a delicious dinner from the restaurant Sala and Betty for 120 attendees! 4
