Find us on social media! Unity 2017 is a na onal conference designed for and about community health workers. The theme for this year s conference was The Collec ve Power of CHWs, CHRs and Promotores. Unity 2017 addressed the roles community health workers play in crea ng access to care, reducing care costs, and promo ng healthy and happy communi es, from individual levels to mee ng na onal goals and objec ves. The conference included plenary, breakout, poster, skill-building, and round-table workshop sessions. Unity 2017 is an opportunity for community health workers to network, share knowledge, exchange informa on and exper se with other community health workers, colleagues, and policy makers. The DFW -CHW Associa on Board was proud to be able to sponsor 1 Associa on member to a end the conference (not pictured).

2 Hispanic Wellness Coali on (HWC) Sponsorship DFW-CHW Associa on is pleased to announce that we ve partnered with the Hispanic Wellness Coali on (HWC) and will be sponsoring their 2 public health screening events this year. 19th Annual Health & Wellness Fair This event, held on August 5 in White Se lement offered a wide range of free medical screenings to the public along with exercise and cooking demonstra ons and more. The DFW-CHW Associa on offered the For Our Daughters HPV vaccina on educa on series to parents of adolescent youth (see details about this project on page 4). DFW-CHW Associa on Board Treasurer, Laura DeHoyos and Member in front of the Associa on s booth & provided HPV vaccina on educa on to over 100 a endees. 12th Annual Carnival de Salud FREE health screenings! Including: glucose/cholesterol, HIV/STD, vision, BMI/blood pressure checks, prostrate and dental exams. There will be health and fitness demonstra ons, par cipatory exercise, music and fun. 4 HVP Project Update The DFW-CHW Associa on previously announced a partnership with the School of Public Health at the University of Texas in Houston. Together, we will work to implement the For Our Daughters (Por Nuestras Hijas) HPV vaccina on educa on program. The purpose of this project is to disseminate the program across the state in order to increase HPV vaccina on among Hispanic adolescents. This theorybased, mul -component interven on was developed to increase HPV vaccina on among Hispanic girls and boys between the ages of years. How it works CHW educates families via fotonovela storytelling format that helps communicate health informa on to individuals with low literacy. Takes minutes, which is less than the average wait me at a clinic. Printed materials available in English and Spanish. The Association has educated ~300 families so far. Help us reach our goal of 2,400! Want to help? You will need to: A end a 4-hour training to learn how to deliver the educa onal material. Work with the associa on to deliver educa onal material to the community. You can receive a compensa on of up to $200 for your assistance in providing educa on to communi es. Single Parent Advocate is a non-profit organiza on commi ed to educa ng, equipping and empowering single parents with resources, prac cal assistance, emo onal encouragement and social networking to be er their lives, and those of their children. We are truly blessed to have a growing base of volunteers who selflessly and passionately possess the desire to help single parent families in need.
