2 NEWS & EVENTS: The 2nd Annual Dancing in the Dark was a Success! On Saturday, April 9th the 2nd Annual Dancing in the Dark event was held to benefit the Florida Center for the Blind at the Oak Run Palm Grove Auditorium. With fantas c live music by Mark Raisch, the dance floor was busy with dancing shoes and laughter. FCB s Transi on students, alumni and clients a=ended the event and had a wonderful experience mingling with the community and dancing the night away! Executive Director & Transition A@er prac cing with a dance instructor last student dancing at the event month, the students were prepared with moves that were shown to all in a=endance. The live music and dancing were coupled with a buffet of delicious hors d oeurves and desserts. The room was filled with excitement as the evening went on, as guests par cipated in a 50/50 raffle, and won door prizes and beau ful raffle baskets arranged by Bo-Kay Florist. There will be a three strike policy for any clients found not using the provided ash tray pot or using the side door. If a client has obtained three strikes, they will no longer be allowed to smoke on FCB property. 3

4 Youth Program s Spring Break Adventures During March s spring break, FCB had both the Children and Transi on programs come into the Center to receive training and par cipate in fun and educa onal trips. It was a great bonding and mentoring experience for both age groups, and the FCB staff is looking forward to con nuing with this new collabora on on occasion. During the two-day program, the Transi on students par cipated in dance lessons for the upcoming Dancing in the Dark event that was held in April. This was not only an opportunity to learn about careers in the dance industry, but a chance to learn new orienta on and mobility skills. Both groups par cipated in assis ve technology training, cooking lessons and independent living skills. A@er receiving Center-based training, the students ventured to the Ocala Civic Theatre for a hands-on, backstage tour, to explore various career opportuni es within the arts and Children & Transition students gather on produc on fields. The Transi on the Civic Theatre stage for a picture. students were able to view the dress rehearsal for a new play, before heading back to the Center for some much needed rest. The second day of the Spring Break program was an exci ng adventure for not only the students, but parents and staff as well. FCB brought both groups to MOSI (Museum of Science & Industry) in Tampa for a day of interac ve learning. MOSI provided a specialty class, the Science of Sound, developed specifically for FCB s Transition students have a photo students.
