1 Next Meeting: Saturday, May 20 9AM Legacy at Erie Station Board PRESIDENT Nancy Mallo Hi all, President s Message 1st VICE PRESIDENT National Seminars (585) nd VICE PRESIDENT After Meeting Projects Val Reynolds vreynol2@rochester.rr.com TREASURER Betsy Ogles bogles@rochester.rr.com May is here!! Time is really flying. I wasn't able to attend the April meeting, due to surgery, but I heard that it was a great project. Thanks to. We only have 5 months to our fundraiser luncheon, so please consider signing up to do a table. We have just 10 tables committed so far, and we really need 16. Remember, you get half of your luncheon paid for by doing a table. If you aren't sure you can do a full table think about sharing one with a friend. We also need live auction pieces, silent auction pieces and baskets. Hope to see you all at the May meeting. There are 2 officer positions to fill for 2018: President and First Vice President. Nancy is in her 3rd year of a 2-year term and will be stepping down from the President position. Barb will have served her two years in the First Vice President position and will not be assuming a 3rd year. Please consider sharing your time and talents with Flower City Decorative Artists. 4 AFTER MEETING PROJECT FOR MAY JeanAnn Kubishin The May after meeting project will be a stoke work review and then a soap painting project taught by JeanAnn Kubishin. Supplies that you will need to bring are: acrylic painting supplies, brushes (#3 round, #4 or 6 filberts, #4 flat, fine liner, and ¼ angle), sand paper, tracing paper, Delta Ceramcoat paint Bright Yellow, Burnt Umber, Forest Green Golden Brown, Manganese Blue, Mulberry, Purple, White or close colors and bar soap if you want a special brand. Soap with brand names only on one side work best but may be sanded off before painting. I will bring work sheets, bars of soap (all ready sealed, ready to paint), Americana Paint Adhesion Medium, and Mod Podge Sealer. NEW FOR THIS YEAR S LUNCHEON We are making a few changes Betsy Ogles, Committee Member, Live Auction Pieces The luncheon committee met May 6, with our volunteer auctioneer, Laura Pennington to hear her suggestions and discuss this year s luncheon. Collectively, the committee discussed several ideas to try to make our luncheon fundraiser even more successful. We all work hard to put on a great event. We would like to see a greater return on our investment of talent, time and materials. First and foremost, we have just 10 tables committed. Ridgemont will hold 16 tables without packing people in too tightly. We need more people to volunteer to do tables. This year, we are going to try to advertise the luncheon in hopes of filling all 16 tables. If you have hesitated to commit to doing a table because you cannot personally fill the seats, we would like to encourage you to do a table. You can help with the advertising by posting a flier in a local library, posting a notice to your neighborhood Facebook groups, local fire department ladies auxiliaries, etc. Betsy will be creating a Facebook post. If you can help to post to a neighborhood group you belong to, Contact Betsy bogles@rochester.rr.com to get a copy so you can post the same thing. We would like to encourage more functional pieces for auction items, rather than framed wall art. Participants have commented that they don t have any more wall space for framed art. We need many more baskets to raffle. Even if guests don t bid on auction pieces, most of them will purchase raffle tickets. We get the biggest bang for our buck on the baskets. It will be quite helpful if you can provide Betsy with a photo and complete description of your live auction piece and/or centerpiece as soon as you have it completed. This will give the auctioneer more time to become familiar with the pieces ahead of time as opposed to seeing them just as everyone is arriving at the luncheon. We will also be asking you this year to estimate the value of your piece. Many members have spent more money on frames alone, not even counting the hours of work they have put into their pieces, only to have them get auctioned for a very low price that doesn t even cover the cost of the frame. We would like to prevent this from happening if at all possible. PLEASE, PLEASE, don t make us beg. Be proactive and let us know that you can do a table, contribute a basket, silent auction item, additional auction item, etc. The more we know in advance, the better we can be prepared on the day of the luncheon, and that benefits the entire chapter. 4

5 SEMINARS Greetings, I will not be at the May meeting (International Conference) but Kirk Miller will bring the registration sheets for Mark Menendez and Sherry Nelson.
