1 AIA Michigan Monday's Minutes Cathy Mosley, Hon. Aff. AIAMI Executive Director October 7, 2013 Edition 10.1 Happy Monday! On Friday, I traveled to Traverse City for the monthly AIAMI Board Meeting and had a wonderful time meeting with our board and seeing the fall color-change first hand. This week we are focused on finalizing details for the Annual Meeting (click here for more information and to register). I would also like to make our members aware of an event that just came together and will be held this Thursday at Harley Ellis Devereaux in Southfield. A representative from NCARB will be in our state and has offered to speak about NCARB and answer questions about IDP, etc. for our members. If you are an intern architect with ARE or IDP questions or a member with general questions, please review the event information and we hope to see you at the event! We are also looking forward to the A.R.E. Weekend Seminar on October 19-20th and registration is still open on the website! 6 AIA Professional Series The AIA+2030 Professional Series begins Sept 26th and helps design professionals create buildings that meet the ambitious energy efficiency goals of the 2030 Challenge. Ten, 4-hour sessions offer strategies to reach 60% reduction in fossil fuel greenhouse gas emissions, giving design professionals the knowledge and leverage to create next-generation, super-efficient buildings and

7 provide firms with the skills that will set them apart in the marketplace. AIA Huron Valley has arranged for this year's AIA sessions to be held at Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn. Please view the full description and registration information here. Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN): Coming soon to Michigan! On behalf of Dawn Zuber, AIA: I am interested in starting a Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) committee in Southeast Michigan. CRAN is AIA's newest Knowledge Community, and we have over 1,200 members nationally. I have served on the Advisory Group at AIA National for the past 4 years, and have found a supportive community of architects who specialize in custom residential projects, including new homes and additions/remodeling. On a national level, we organize a symposium for residential practitioners each fall-the recent symposium in Santa Fe was a rousing success! In addition, we have been organizing a publication of exemplary single-family residential design called Houses for All Regions, a series of short videos about residential architecture called CRANtv, a compilation of resources for residential architects and our clients, a quarterly newsletter, and much more... There are many residential architects in Southeast Michigan, and I believe that we could all benefit from organizing meetings and events specifically for our needs. Because I am a sole practitioner, and I am still involved with CRAN on the national level, I don't have time to be the champion for starting a CRAN committee on the local level, but I would be happy to support someone with the vision and drive to do the heavy lifting. If you feel that AIA does nothing for residential architects, this is the committee for you!
