4 President s Report: Last week the Club brought its Rules and Bylaws to a level of full compliance with the requirements of Rotary International (RI) and with the law in Victoria. These changes will allow the Club to have greater flexibility in meeting formats and attendance requirements, plus will recognise Corporate and Family memberships. A Corporate membership agreement document proforma is currently under development by District which will enable the formalising of current situations and the setup of new arrangements. We hope to increase our Corporate memberships this year. Edwina Ricci was wearing all hats during her excellent presentation on the City of Wellbeing project. Firstly as President of the Croydon Chamber of Commerce (our Joint Venture partner in the project), Secondly as Community Partnerships Leader and teacher at Melba College and finally as a Croydon Rotary member. The meeting was well attended with visitors, Cr Marijke Graham, PP John van Holsteyn and PDG David Alexander. Also attending were our Outbound Youth Exchange student Sam Thomas, his mother Nicola and Stuart McDonald. Sam will be going to Germany in The Maroondah City of Wellbeing Program is designed to develop and implement the internationally recognised Plus 10 Program in the City of Maroondah, shown to build resilience (relief) and protect against mental illness and suicide (preventing reversion into a state of anxiety and depression). The project will initially focus on disadvantaged / disengaged youth in the community as well as disadvantaged adults subject to isolation and depression (high incidence demographic). Traditional psychology has addressed mental illness from a rescue perspective, positive psychology interventions aim to not only rescue, but protect against future occurrences by building resilience and coping strategies. Through the Joint Venture Croydon Rotary hopes to become more closely involved and in particular identify opportunities to acquire funding from corporations and philanthropic organisations to support the project. Rotary identification such as the Rotary Wheel will be displayed on communications and any resource materials. A JV Board meeting was held on Friday with Joy Varughese and David Alexander. Following the trial with the meeting format last week, I have received feedback from a number of members. So far, the general indication is that the meal after the meeting concept has merit but that the Bistro meals were too large and the seniors meal choice should be available. Specific issues will be raised with Dorset management and a full member discussion will be held at our meeting on 3 rd October. At the last Board meeting the following items were on the agenda: Discussions are continuing with Croydon Police regarding the Community Policing vehicle. The Board has approved taking over the vehicle in principle but requires more information on the service history and mechanical status before any final agreement. Lilydale Mitsubishi who have serviced the vehicle will be contacted. A $1000 payment was approved for the continuing support of the Eastern Health/Anglicare Kids Club. Approval was given to purchase 2 guitars and cases as requested by the Mental Health Unit. Arrangements are being made to have a vocational visit to the Unit in the near future when a presentation would be made. Joy Varughese will finalise an agreement with RC Subang, Malaysia for a sister club arrangement.

5 General discussion was held regarding future meeting formats and protocols. This will be taken up on 3 rd October. As all payments to Kidney Health in respect of the Red Bus project have been finalised, additional bank accounts will be closed. Final advice is required from RI regarding interest received. Members will be consulted on final actions should there be a surplus. Kidney Health still have plans for a formal publicity launch for the Red Bus. The previous April launch was deferred. Details will be released when date/venue are set. A Raffle Co-ordination meeting was held on Monday 21 st August to allocate roles for the 2017 Raffle. Regards, Stephen Bode ******************************** Delivery of Welcome Packs at Maroondah Hospital Another 400 toiletries Welcome Packs for new admissions at the Mental Health Unit at Maroondah Hospital were delivered last week. Heidi Schmidt accepted the delivery. Michael and Ann Jackomos packed and labelled all the bags. President Stephen Bode assisted with the delivery and ever camera-shy Michael elected to take the photo. Thanks also to Greg O Neill for printing the labels.
