As a result of this dedication, our club won the following awards at the GFWC-WS Peninsula District 2012 Spring Conference. Home Life: 1st place. 2 Bean Project Progress GFWC s 2012 supporting efforts for INMED Partnerships for Children are already in full swing and there is a high level of excitement about the children who will be saved, the women and communities that will be empowered, and the futures that will shine brighter than ever. INMED Partnerships for Children is an international humanitarian development organization. Since 1986, INMED has built alliances with public- and privatesector partners in more than 100 countries to rescue children from the immediate and irreversible harm of disease, hunger, abuse, neglect or violence, and to prepare them to shape a brighter future for themselves and the next generation. GFWC is one of those partners. Face the Challenge Through this campaign we have identified the five major challenges we believe will face the children we serve in the next decade. For more information about the challenge, please visit the website at: Participating clubs will be recognized on the INMED website and there will be special awards at the Annual Convention in North Carolina in June. There is still an opportunity to add to our club s General Fund and to enrich your pantry's stock of fun wholesome food. Go to the Women's Bean Project web site and place an order. GFWC-WS Convention Just 3 Weeks Away Anticipation grows as the installation of our own Dawn Magden as GFWC- WS President approaches. There is still time to send in reservations, but the deadline of April 3 is fast approaching. Since GFWC Valley Volunteers is Dawn s club, members who wish to attend just the Installation Banquet and Installation Ceremony may do so by sending in registrations and dinner reservation payments for $ No registration fee would be required. Those who would like to attend just the installation ceremony may do so without having to send in a registration. However, members are asked to let Dawn know, in advance of the convention, so enough seating would made be available for those attending after the banquet. Setting the scene by wearing the green! 5 Putting Words into Action Cindy Remington organized the collection and delivery of a day s worth of snacks for our local Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge event. This is when college students from across the U.S. come and spend a week building for Habitat. Churches provide places for the students to stay and volunteers provide lunches and snacks! Our club meeting dates for the remainder of 2012 Pierce County READS Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet Join the largest free reading event in Pierce County, Pierce County READS, when thousands of people come together as a community and read copies of the same book at the same time. This year marks The fifth annual Pierce County READS program concludes April 13. This years book is Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by nationally known, prizewinning author Jamie Ford. It is a gripping account of the Japanese American internment during World War II, through the eyes and voice of a child as he matures through life. Meet the author, Jamie Ford, at a free event and book signing at Clover Park Technical College, Sharon McGavick Conference Center, in Lakewood, on Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m. Page 5

Now s a great time to clean out those closets and drawers! Ryan House Museum Do you find you have too many unused cookbooks and aprons at home? Well, just bring them along to our April meeting for the upcoming Ryan House Museum Porch Sale, which will take place this summer. All donations will be truly appreciated.
