3 Annual Report President s Message 3 President s Message Dear Friends, More than 4.5 million lives are saved each year by a single, selfless act donating blood. In fact, just one pint of blood can help save up to three lives. Every minute of every day, someone will need blood. Because of your support, The Blood Connection is able to make vital connections that save lives in our communities. The Blood Connection, headquartered in Piedmont, SC, was founded in 1962 and is the largest independently managed, non-profit community blood center in the region. The Blood Connection truly understands that its first order of business is the blood supply. We continually assess the ever-changing needs of our hospital partners and establish goals that ensure we provide what is needed. Strategic goal setting and the pursuit of these goals are the driving forces behind our operation. We know that achieving daily blood collection goals ensures a worry-free inventory of blood products. We are committed to meeting the needs of patients in our communities, and this means having the right products in the right quantities at the right time. Most importantly, local hospital and patient needs are met first. Only after our hospital partners are taken care of does TBC provide much needed services beyond our horizon to other hospitals and blood centers. We thank you for each time that you help save a life, and promise to continually seek ways to improve our service to our hospital partners and communities. 7 Making a Difference 11 Making a Difference Kenneth s Story Every time Kenneth Greene walks into a Blood Connection Donation Center, he thinks of his father. A veteran, role model, and loyal blood donor, he s the reason Kenneth is now a loyal blood donor too. As an O-Neg, his father donated every chance he had. Until one day, when he suddenly became a recipient. That s the moment Kenneth realized just how important it is to donate blood. When his family needed it most, it was there. IT S THE RIGHT THING TO DO FOR THE COMMUNITY. Blood transfusions gave Kenneth s father three more months to say goodbye before he passed away in Kenneth says having that extra time was the biggest blessing in the hardest time. And it was all thanks to kind blood donors, like Kenneth s father, who decided it was worth the time to give back. Kenneth now follows in his father s footsteps. Also an O-Neg, Kenneth gives blood regularly to honor his father and to share life. Although talking about his father s death is hard, Kenneth shares his passion for donating because he knows it s saving lives. Now it s Kenneth s mission to make sure blood is there for other families, just like it was for him. Kenneth s story is the perfect example of blood donation coming full circle.
