2 Social media BurleighHeadsRotary Chair for this Meeting: Richard Spencer Presidents Welcome: Richard enthusiastically welcomed our guests and also spoke about his suggestion to Colleen to conduct a survey on members interests so that we may organise more social functions. Board Directors Reports: Club Service: Allan Barnett: Melbourne Cup Trifecta time- all members asked to sell 48 tickets each this year and we can raise around $2700! See for more details. Hat Day next Thursday meeting! Wear a funny hat and raise funds for Mental Health Research. See below Membership- Colleen: on her survey that went out to members to collect information on all members interests with the view to engage members in more social activities. Rotary Foundation: a seminar at Caboolture this Sunday on Rotary International Grants, of which one of our members needs to attend in order for us to apply for an International Grant. Richard proposes to attend. Scooter Project- David, always busy with scooters coming and going. International- Bren, going to Kingscliff Hospital to pick up beds to take to RAWCS, packing day this Saturday in Brisbane RAWC s. Another container going to Timor soon. Bren just got back from Timor, assisting an excursion of Marymount school students, and teachers. Guest Speakers This Week : Our members, Ross Smith, Trevor Taylor and Viviane Mueller on our PNG Kimbe Project Gold Coast Ramble Trevor first up; a rundown on the basics of the project, ended up with two water tanks on concrete block stands, underground poly pipe from a solar powered pump at a well where there was originally just a hand pump. Solar panels had to go on top of one of the tanks as it was too shaded where the pump was located. Still to finalise the operation of the pump, but project came in on budget it appears at this stage. Hat Day Last Year!

3 Viviane: obviously enjoyed her time with the local kindergarten, children and teacher, and explained to us what it was like at a school in such a remote third world country. She also gave the teacher some of the birthing kits that were made up by Rotarians here on the Gold Coast. Black Tie Team Ross; elaborated on the project as well as the actual village life and locals who helped them which was very enlightening. It appears that they were extremely helpful, with all ages helping dig trenches etc, very gracious and friendly, and experts at toilet training the toddlers of the village! No disposable nappies to be seen! Nearly all, from, kids to elderly carry very long knives all the time, yet don t seem to hurt themselves with them! About 2000 people in the village, he also managed to distribute some birthing kits as well. Colleen and Teresa BTD Other News: Ken- offered to conduct a First Aid basic course for members soon, and then informed us of details of the Lifesaving organisations etc, and the incident where a person was just rescued and revived last weekend at Tallabudgera Creek. Around the District & Beyond: Nick and Jac BTD Rotary Foundation Grants workshop this Sunday at Caboolture. Richard proposes to attend Heads & Tails: By Luca this week and won by? Happy Fines: Lovely Ladies BTD Jac ran it this week and always comes up with a good one- one word that sums up Rotary! Many different answers as you can imagine! Next Week s Guest speaker: End Polio Now Professor Richard John on Reading books for Early readers in Science and the Environment. I m really looking forward to this one!

4 Membership: Active: 43 members Honorary: 7 members Disability Awards Dinner Next Week s Meeting Duties: Chair: Jac Plaice H & T ; Andy, Fines: Morgan, VOT: Christian Club Progress for the Year: No. of Volunteer Hours by our Club Members, year to date: Disability Awards Dinner It has jumped again this week with a few updates and our members volunteer hours in PNG! 889 hours as per our new Volunteer Hour Spreadsheet ( that only I can see) Total amount of fundraising by our Club, year to date: Fundraising: $1614 Annual Changeover Donations to our Club: $635 (to Scooter Project) $7000 towards PNG Kimbe project Donations by our Club: $500 to Bryce and the Super Turtle! $US2500 for Every Rotarian Every Year, to TRF.
