4 OKLAHOMA CHAPTER HISTORY In the summer of 1980 the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation s newsletter asked for those interested in a Oklahoma Support group to contact Anita King. That year saw the beginnings of this chapter. In January 1981 the first organized meeting of myasthenics in Oklahoma was held. More than 100 individuals - doctors, nurses, specialists, patients, family members and friends attended the gathering from several parts of the state. On March 1981 this group was recognized as a branch of the Greater Kansas Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation. In December 1981 the National MG Foundation gave official recognition to the Oklahoma Green Country Chapter. On February 22, 1985 the Chapter was chartered as a non-profit corporation within the State of Oklahoma; in January 1988 the Chapter s name was changed from Oklahoma Green Country Chapter to Oklahoma Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Inc. In December 2005 our named was again changed, to The Oklahoma Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc., this last name change was done to bring us in line with our national organizations name, The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc. A major step was taken when the William K. Warren Foundation made it possible for the Chapter to establish an office in the Warren Medical Building, close by to one of Tulsa s largest medical centers, Saint Francis Hospital. Operational grants from the Founder s of Doctor s Hospital, Inc. of Tulsa and the establishing of a headquarters was instrumental in both expanding services and growth of Chapter membership. In October of 2011 we moved to our present location at 4606 E 67th St S, Suite 100, Tulsa. Today the main source of Chapter income are dues and donations, payroll contributions made through Community Health Charities of Oklahoma and operating grants from foundations. We are very grateful to the Warren Professional Building Corporation for the continued donation of office space. Also sincere gratitude to The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation and the William K. Warren Foundation for their kind and generous support of our organization in providing yearly operating grants. Since 1999 Peggy Foust, daughter-in-law of a myasthenic, has been the Executive Director. The Chapter has strived for these many years to provide educational information and support to all myasthenics, their families and health care professionals. We are dedicated to the goal that no myasthenic ever feels alone in their disease.
