Quade, MA, MPH is President-Elect of the American Public Health Association (APHA). He previously served on APHA s executive board and as the Ohio Public Health Association President. Mr. Quade is currently the Health Commissioner for Marion County, Ohio. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Health Commissioner for Summit County, Ohio. He also holds a community faculty position with the Northeastern Ohio Medical University s Master of Public Health program. Jay Butler, MD, CPE was appointed by Governor Walker as Chief Medical Officer for the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and Director of the Division of Public Health in December He is the current President of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. Previously, Dr. Butler was Senior Director for Community Health Services at the ANTHC, where he was also a clinical infectious diseases consultant and Medical Director for Infection Control and Employee Health. Larry Cohen, MSW founder and Executive Director of Prevention Institute, has been an advocate for public health, social justice, and prevention since Mr. Cohen established Prevention Institute in 1997 as a national non-profit center dedicated to improving community health and well-being by building momentum for effective primary prevention. The Institute s work is characterized by a systems approach to prevention, a strong emphasis on community participation, and promotion of equitable health outcomes among all social and economic groups. Bridget L. Hanson, PhD is a research assistant professor at UAA s Center for Behavioral Health Research & Services (CBHRS), Institute of Social and Economic Research. Dr. Hanson joined CBHRS after earning her PhD in Experimental Psychology, with an emphasis in social psychology, from the University of North Dakota in Her current projects include evaluating community efforts to prevent prescription opioid misuse and overdose in Alaska and exploring practice behaviors of health professionals and students for addressing alcohol misuse. Karen Heath, MS is the Director of Research and Evaluation at the University of Alaska Anchorage Center for Human Development. Currently, she leads a team of researchers who conduct disability research in the areas of health, justice, and employment. In a recent project, Ms. Heath engaged an interdisciplinary team of university researchers in a needs assessment focused on the mental health of Anchorage youth. Ms. Heath has expertise in vocational rehabilitation and over 30 years of experience in the disability field.
5 Keynote Speakers (continued) Marcia Howell, JD began working at the Alaska Injury Prevention Center in 2000 and has been Executive Director for 8 years. She has worked with a broad range of partners in an effort to make Anchorage and Alaska a safer place to live, work, and play. According to Ms. Howell, Collaboration is essential to our work. It is through the convergence of diverse points of view, areas of expertise, and varied missions that we can make a difference. Kris Pitts, MPS is a Family Care Coordinator at the Alaska CARES Child Advocacy Center in Anchorage. She conducts child and developmentally-delayed adult forensic interviews, provides crisis intervention and resource referral, and educates families and children affected by neglect, maltreatment, physical abuse, and sexual violence. Ms. Pitts is also co-owner/operator of 3-Squared Consulting, Behavioral Health and Social Services consulting for community members and professionals. Lisa Aquino, MHS is currently serving as the Executive Director of Catholic Social Services, bringing a public health perspective to the issues impacting the most at need in Anchorage. In this position, she helps form new partnerships and initiatives with hospitals and healthcare organizations and the Municipality of Anchorage. Ms. Aquino previously served in many public health leadership positions, including manager of the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and coordinator of Healthy Alaskans Nancy Burke, MSW serves as Mayor Ethan Berkowitz s Housing and Homeless Services Coordinator in Anchorage. She works in policy, finance, and social services programming in affordable accessible housing for people with disabilities and the homeless, concentrating on the improvement of behavioral health service delivery structures and community housing. Ms. Burke has worked on several program development efforts, including replicating Housing First projects in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. David Driscoll, PhD, MPH, MA is the director of the Institute for Circumpolar Health Studies and Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. His research combines anthropological and epidemiological methods to develop and evaluate health promotion programs for culturally-distinct communities. Dr. Driscoll has published widely, including in the Journal of Rural Health, Health Promotion Practice, the International Journal of Circumpolar Health, and the Journal of Health Communication. Andy Jones is the Chief for the Section of Rural and Community Health Systems, Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS). He oversees the Statewide Emergency Medical Services system, Trauma Unit, Health Emergency Response Operations, Office of Rural Health and Healthcare Access, and the opioid overdose outreach education and naloxone distribution program, Project HOPE (Harm-reduction, Overdose Prevention and Education). Mr. Jones is also the Incident Commander in the DHSS Emergency Operations Center. Christopher Skinner is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rockstar Recovery Foundation. As a recovering opioid and benzodiazepine addict, Mr. Skinner directs an online recovery group of over 8,000 members. The group has helped people affected by addiction and assisted hundreds in accessing treatment while sharing their experiences, strength, and hope. Mr. Skinner is also active in the offline recovery community. He attends weekly Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meeting where he leads the discussion and is a speaker for Access DUI for up to 100 people. Register Online!
