Activity Report A social integration through work program
President s Report Each year, as I prepare this report, I look for a theme to reflect on that highlights our year's accomplishments. This year I am looking at our "mission statement," which states that we are a non- profit organization offering social integration through work activities to people with mental illness and based on the principles of recovery and self empowerment. A review of the year , in my opinion, can best be described as "mission accomplished." We can be proud of this accomplishment and are grateful to our staff under the leadership of Marie-Claude for their outstanding efforts in finding new opportunities to challenge our participants and their commitment to our mission statement. Providing work for our participants has been and remains our main objective. Our statistics indicate that in addition to increasing the number of participants during the year , we also increased the overall number of hours worked. We are proud of our participants and acknowledge their efforts in handling the variety of tasks assigned to them. The board of directors is grateful to the city of Dorval for its ongoing efforts in providing an adequate workplace for our production. We also appreciate the support of our MNA, Francois Ouimet, who remains attentive to our program. We are also grateful to our many benefactors for their contributions, which ensure the financial stability of our project. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and active volunteer Board of Directors, and I take this opportunity to thank them for their commitment to our mission. Respectfully submitted, Emile LaCoste President 2 Annual Report
A Word from the Director Last year was a year filled with emotions and challenges. I credit our success to our Board of Directors extraordinary team of volunteers, who guided and supported us, and to a great team of employees, participants and volunteers. This year Ruth McLellan, a dedicated long-standing employee, left us, and we welcomed a new employee, Susan Allard, with enthusiasm. Line Rainville, Nancy Miraglia, Ginette Lapointe, and Sedighe Ghassemnejad have all demonstrated their great ability to adapt and their courage to tackle new challenges. I also congratulate all of our participants for their tenacity and for their help in making our program a success! Description of the activities carried out as part of the program of L Équipe Entreprise Most participants in our program have reached a level of stability and wish to regain control of their lives. Work is part of life and offers an opportunity to be socially involved. L Équipe Entreprise is an organization that is positioned in their journey of recovery to improve their skills; many will manage to return to school or the job market. For others it will remain difficult to integrate into the workforce. In us they find a flexible environment to break the isolation and to make a social contribution. This year we offered 55 participants 12,050 hours of work activities (see statistics on page 6). We employ four persons through integration to work on contracts from Emploi Québec. We are very proud of their accomplishment as employees at L Équipe Entreprise. The product of our work activities enables us to feed the elderly of the community; we produced nearly 22,000 frozen meals in L Équipe Entreprise benefits from several partnerships and belongs to a number of committees and groups. Emploi Quebec has become a partner through l Arrimage and the integration to work contracts they offer us. We also have a contract with Emploi Québec that allows 10 of our participants to benefit from the Assistance and Social Support program (Interagir). The workshops we develop and pilot projects in which we participate enable a percentage of our participants to consider returning to the labour market. Last year, 14 participants started a program on Team Work and Group Dynamics that will be pursued this year. Our pilot project in collaboration with the Jeanne-Sauvé Adult Education Centre and Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeois is progressing. Training cooking assistants should begin in September Annual Report
In November our participants received training on Hygiene and Sanitation given by a certified trainer from the Ministère de l Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l Alimentation du Québec. Each year we organize several events, such as a BBQ during the summer and a Valentine s Day lunch to allow our participants, employees and volunteers to socialize. Each year we also open our doors to students seeking information about our program. This year we received a visit from nursing students at Bois de Boulogne College. We make every effort when we have the opportunity to increase public awareness. Our chef participated in an interview broadcast on Ville-Marie radio. One of our participants, Sylvie Le Cavalier, delivered a poignant testimony during Adult Mental Health Day of Training and Networking, held on December 11 at the Centre for Health and Social Service of Dorval-Lachine-LaSalle. The community s contribution to L Équipe Entreprise activities The community encourages the purchase of our products, which translates into hours of work for our participants. Our sale of frozen meals has increased by 10%. We are privileged to obtain donations from various private foundations, officials and members of the community who believe in our mission. We were delighted by the visit of the Fondation Jacques Francoeur, which enabled us to buy a new refrigerator. Our special arrangement with Volunteer West Island to supply frozen meals for their Meals on Wheels customers provides us with production stability and offers a maximum number of working hours to our participants. The various mental health organizations on the West Island continuously refer customers to our program. We sincerely thank Mylène from Xerox Canada for printing 500 copies of one of our brochures free of charge. The City of Dorval, considerate of our needs, provided us with additional office space by carrying out renovations. We wish to underscore the collaboration of our volunteers Andrée Ricard, Louisette Gitkow, Louise Cote, and Sandy Albutt. Our volunteers are an invaluable force in helping the team operate more efficiently. I would like to make particular mention of the generosity of Andrée Ricard and Paul Marsan, who supply us with good working computers each year. 4 Annual Report
L Équipe Entreprise contributes to the network of community organizations L Équipe Entreprise is an active member of several groups and committees. We work with organizations of the West Island to improve the wellbeing of the population in general or by services, shared references and participation in various projects and collective events such as Mental Health Week, Collective Christmas, and municipal events such as the Conference of First Citizens of Dorval. This year we participated to the following committees and groups: Table de concertation en santé mentale de l Ouest-de-l Île, which brings together representatives of the CSSS serving the West Island and various mental health organizations in the West Island; Days of reflection of the Table de concertation en santé mentale de l Ouest-de-l île; W.I.T.P.A.R.: West Island Table for Psychiatric Alternative Resources; Integration Committee of the Table de concertation en santé mentale de l Ouest-de -l Île Montréal; Continuity of Care Committee. L Équipe Entreprise is also a member of: AQRP: Quebec Association for Psychosocial Readaptation; RACOR: Réseau alternatif et communautaire des organismes en santé mentale; ACMHA: Canadian Mental Health Association - Montreal Chapter; Ami-Québec. Goals This program has two goals: first, to create work activities for people who have a mental illness and second, to offer to the community quality goods and services at a reasonable cost. Services offered to the participants of l Équipe Entreprise A supportive and caring environment A flexible schedule that respects each individual s needs Promotion of positive work habits and attitudes The opportunity to experience meaningful connections to the community The chance to become actively involved in the organization through representation on the Board of Directors and various committees Services designed to promote overall individual growth Programs and workshops according to the needs of our participants to improve the quality of life of all who attend Individual career development coaching Leadership courses Team Building Training Program for those whose participation is 20 to 30 hours a week L Équipe Entreprise offers the following services to the community: Production of healthy frozen meals 21,693 meals and 2734 soups were prepared and sold by L Équipe Entreprise in the past year, an increase of 10%. Sales of our frozen meals represent 84% of our self-financing income. Each week approximately 80 clients buy our healthy frozen meals. Each week volunteer drivers from Volunteer West Island deliver our meals to more than 20 Meals on Wheels clients experiencing loss of autonomy. Annual Report
Catering service Our catering contracts represent 16% of our self-financing income Services to seniors Three times a week, a team of participants and a supervisor carry out the lunch service at Maison Donalda-Boyer, a residence for approximately 70 seniors in Dorval. Twice a month, our participants serve tea and join in the activities at Stewart Hall Seniors Club of Pointe Claire from September to June, and we organize seniors luncheons in collaboration with the seniors of the community. News from the Participants Committee A database was developed by volunteer Andrée Ricard that incorporates, among other things, customer service information. It has proven to be a very helpful tool in preparing our work. Susan Allard and Nancy Miraglia, together with the people who work at reception, developed a new system for the reception desk that makes accounting simpler. For National Mental Health Week on May 6, 2009, a march was organized. It ended at L Équipe Entreprise, and refreshments were served. It was a great success. Regular Participant Meetings are held in an effort to encourage more communication and foster team spirit. At each meeting, participants of the month are selected. In March, Jennifer Fasciano held a workshop on time management, which was well received by all. In April, Shadia Wahbeh from l Arrimage gave a presentation on the various work possibilities, which was much appreciated. She will try to come and see us regularly. L Équipe Entreprise has grown; we now have two additional telephone lines. 8 Annual Report
Income Distribution Revenues $150,000 $100,000 $50,000 $ Self-Financing Donations Grants PSOC Others PSOC Grant (Programme de soutien aux organismes communautaires) The Agence de la santé et de services sociaux de Montréal granted us an amount of $142,809. Other grants Empoi Quebec, with its Integration Contract to Work and Assistance and Social Support programs, enables us to employ temporary staff and increase the work hours for some of our participants. Self-financing The self-financing of L Équipe Entreprise is generated through the sale of frozen meals and catering contracts. Our sales have reached $108,935, which represents a substantial percentage of our income, permits the purchase of ingredients, and contributes in part to the remuneration of our participants. The products we sell remain low priced for the community. Donations Donations to l Équipe Entreprise from various foundations and individuals represent a large part of our income and have kept the organization alive and thriving. This generous contribution allows us to offer work activities to our participants in all of our programs, which helps the seniors in the community. The donations are also used to maintain our equipment in good order for the optimal use of our kitchen. West Island Community Shares granted us $27,000, which represents 7.4% of our revenues.
