8 THE OPTIMIST CREED PROMISE YOURSELF To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. Tina Seifert introduced Kristin Scray-Finlan representing Pirate Fastpitch. The softball club enrolls players from the Howard Suamico School District. Their mission is to not only create advanced softball players but to create future leaders. They enroll students from age 5 to seniors in high school regardless of ability. Disabled students are more than welcome to join. Pirate Fastpitch places a huge emphasis on community service. They are currently fundraising to build a state of the art indoor training center in the Howard Industrial Park. April 10, 2018 Birthdays: Harold Peterson, Mike Blaney Anniversaries: None 50/50 - Bob Hanson Queen of Hearts - Harold Peterson Tina Seifert introduced Amy Hagel from HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Child Life Program. Child Life is a unique program designed to help children, and their families, feel more at ease when having a hospital procedure. In addition to their hospital work, they also go out into the community educating students on medical conditions and what classmates undergoing procedures might be experiencing. They also have presentations on how to prevent diseases from spreading. All of their services are free. They are funded through donations and grants.

9 April 17, 2018 Birthdays: Wendy Heim Election- No Speaker April 24, 2018 Birthdays: Colleen Albers, Anniversaries: Steve & Kathleen Kersten, Wendy & Ron Heim 50/50 - Burt McIntyre Queen of Hearts - Burt McIntyre Tina Seifert introduced Beth Schroth-Seiler from Forefront Dermatology. Beth gave a very informative presentation on identifying melanoma skin cancer. Her slides depicted what signs and symptoms we should look for and what treatments are available. If recognized and treated early, it is almost always curable, but if it is not, the cancer can advance and spread. May is skin cancer awareness month. YEARLY REMINDERS: 1) You can only put in for the Queen of Hearts drawing IF you put in for the 50/50 also. If you bring a guest, they can put in for 50/50, but not the Queen of Hearts drawing. The winner of the pot should be present to do the

10 drawing every week or assign someone. Jokers pay $20. 2) Please silence your cell phones and put them away during the meeting. The Sergeant At Arms will be happy to collect $5 from you if your phone rings. 3) Please let the President/Secretary know if any club member is in the hospital or if there has been a death in a member s immediate family. 4) If you have any good ideas for fundraisers, let the President know. 5) Board of Directors meetings are usually held the third Monday of the month at Townline Pub & 6PM 6) If you have a change of address, address or phone number, please let us know. In consideration for our speakers, Please no talking during the speaker s presentation. As we start a new year of speakers, I would just like to remind our group that when we have speakers come in, they want to inform us about a business, an event or things going on in our community. Some might speak on sensitive subjects to which you may agree or not agree, but it doesn't mean we're here to debate the subject. It is for informational purposes, so take what you want and leave the rest. Thank you!
