There were also presentations by local learners to their families and VIP guests, including the Deputy Minister for Skills, the Mayors of Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Merthyr, Blaenau Gwent and the Deputy Mayor for Caerphilly Borough, and an awards ceremony for the learners. Julie James, AM Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology said: Award ceremonies like this provide a valuable forum for young people to demonstrate their achievements and showcase how their college has supported them. In Wales, we believe our youth hold the key to our future well-being and prosperity. Their talent, skills and energy will help Wales grow and become more competitive. Tackling youth and adult unemployment remains one of the Welsh Government s top priorities. Huw Lewis MBE, Managing Director at MPCT, said: The young people here today have demonstrated that they are not only improving on their fitness, but also on invaluable life skills such as public speaking and confidence, and they should be very proud. 2 -- The Military Preparation College is dedicated to helping year olds prepare for a rewarding career in the Armed Forces. The College, which has 16 branches nationwide and is free to attend, helps young men and women develop their physical fitness, functional skills and self-confidence giving them the best possible chance to pass selection for the Armed Forces, and complete basic training. To date the College has helped over 2000 learners successfully enrol in the Armed Forces, and helped many more transform their lives and make positive progressions into further education, training or employment. 6 About The Military Preparation College (MPCT) The Military Preparation College (MPCT) was founded in 1999 by managing director Huw Lewis MBE to engage, motivate and educate year olds to realise their full potential. Over 800 learners are currently enrolled at 15 branches throughout England and Wales. The college offers a 50/50 mix of physical and curriculum training, with embedded Level 1 functional skills in Maths, English and ICT. Teamwork, personal pride, physical and mental robustness, duty, community spirit, confidence and humility are all key qualities taught at the Military Preparation College. powered by
