1 Current volunteer opportunities Weldmar Hospicecare Trust has vacancies for a number of volunteer posts throughout the organisation, supporting the breadth of services that we offer. At Joseph Weld Hospice, Dorchester: Hairdresser This post requires someone to offer hairdressing to social day respite patients as part of our Wellbeing Services. A regular commitment of two hours is needed every Tuesday. Nails & Handcare We are looking for volunteers to offer nails and handcare to social day respite patients as part of our Wellbeing Services with a regular commitment of two hours every Tuesday. to patients on the In-Patient Unit with a regular commitment of two hours once a week. Relevant training and experience is desirable. Receptionist This post requires someone with experience in reception work and good people skills. They need to be able to cope with a variety of demands at the main desk. A regular commitment is needed to fulfil a rota. We have a specific need for: to Wednesday, alternate Thursday to Saturday, Sunday to Saturday We also have a need for bank volunteers to cover short notice gaps on the rota: to weekdays to Saturday, Sunday to Saturday If you are interested please contact Lynn Goodchild on Waiter We are looking for volunteers to meet & greet diners, take orders and serve meals in The Orangery restaurant which is open daily from to A regular commitment is required to fulfil a rota. Ward Duties We are looking for volunteers to help serve meals to in-patients at the hospice. A regular commitment is needed to fulfill a rota. We have a specific need for: to Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday to alternate Monday, Wednesday to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday to Thursday, Sunday Washing Up We are looking for volunteers to help in the kitchens during service by washing and returning items of crockery, cutlery, ironware and drinking vessels to their storage positions ready for reuse. 2 At Trimar Hospice, Weymouth: Carers Support Group This post requires someone to offer support at the Carers' Support Group which meets from to alternate Tuesdays. A regular commitment is required and duties include meet & greet, serve refreshments, interact with the carers and advise of any concerns identified, co-facilitate the group, and clear away afterwards. Also offer telephone support to carers as directed. Chiropodist This post requires someone to offer chiropody to social day respite patients as part of our Wellbeing Services. Relevant professional qualification and experience is essential. A regular commitment of two hours is needed. Hospitality Services We are looking for volunteers to assist the chef in all aspects of hotel service delivery with specific focus on the delivery of meals and beverages to social day respite patients using our Wellbeing Services. A regular commitment is needed to cover 3 to 4 hours over lunch, one or more days per week. Recreational This post requires someone to offer recreational activities to social day respite patients using our Wellbeing Services. A regular commitment on a Monday (AM or PM), Thursday (PM), or Friday (AM and PM) is required. Activities could include playing cards, scrabble, quiz, and chatting with patients. At North Dorset Wellbeing Centres: Creative Therapist This post requires someone to work in a supervised environment with our social day respite patients at the Wellbeing Centre in Shaftesbury on a Wednesday. A regular commitment of three hours is needed. Relevant training and experience is desirable. A regular commitment is needed however times can be flexible. The Wellbeing Centres are open on Wednesdays in Shaftesbury and Thursdays in Blandford. You will need good keyboard skills and be confident to learn specific databases. A regular commitment of three hours a week is needed. 3 In the Community: Arts Therapy The Arts Therapy team is looking for volunteers to support our work with patients, carers and families as follows: People who have a counselling or therapy background to support us in our group work. To do this you will need to make a regular weekly commitment for up to 8 weeks at a time. People with arts skills to help us run our Arts Café sessions which are due to start in September on Thursday mornings at Joseph Weld Hospice, Dorchester. We require a regular commitment. People who are able to transcribe from recordings. You will need to use your own computer and work from home. People who have creative IT skills such as the ability to work with Photoshop and InDesign to support our Life Story work. If you are interested in any of these volunteer posts, please contact Deborah Aita on Chaplaincy This post requires someone to work within our chaplaincy team offering support to patients of all faiths and none. A lay pastoral assistant background or equivalent is beneficial, and full training and supervision will be given. A regular commitment is needed, working from our sites in Dorchester, Sturminster Newton or Weymouth. If you are interested please contact Reverend Sally Bedborough on Companion (Beaminster, Bridport, Dorchester, Lyme Regis and surrounding areas) We are looking for volunteers to support our patients/carers in their own homes, helping them to cope more effectively and with more confidence. You could be asked to undertake home visits, telephone contact, provide companionship, and accompany to planned appointments. No clinical or personal hygiene care required. A regular commitment of maximum 3 hours a week is needed. If you are interested please contact Kay Kelsall on Companion (Weymouth, Portland and surrounding areas) We are looking for volunteers to support our patients/carers in their own homes, helping them to cope more effectively and with more confidence. You could be asked to undertake home visits, telephone contact, provide companionship, and accompany to planned appointments. No clinical or personal hygiene care required. A regular commitment of maximum 3 hours a week is needed. Occasional drivers also required to transport patients, carers and the bereaved to medical appointments and support groups. Reimbursement of mileage expenses is available. Our very varied fundraising events require the help of volunteers working alongside our fundraising team.
