2 Mission It is the mission of UADM to create a multifaceted organization that operates through the support and leadership of UA students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the Tuscaloosa community. The organization enhances the lives of children and families suffering from childhood diseases, and therefore serves Alabama by assisting those treated at the Children s Hospital of Alabama. Furthermore, UADM strives to establish a continued tradition, invoke appreciation and involvement, and ultimately create something greater than oneself. UADM is a student run philanthropy at the University of Alabama. All of the money rasied by UADM goes to Chilfren s of Alabama through Children s Miracle Network. UADM has rasied over $75, 000 since its founding in October 2011.

3 What Is UADM? UADM is a year-round fundraising event in which participants provide financial and emotional assistance to the children and families undergoing treatment at Children s Hospital in Birmingham, AL. UADM was created as a part of the national Dance Marathon network as a way to unite the UA campus for a common cause- Dancing for those who can t. The students spend a year learning invaluable leadership and social skills while raising funds in a variety of ways and interacting with Children s Hospital patients and families. The year culminates with a 10-hour long event where the students stay on their feet through dancing, games, and entertainment in order to celebrate the total amount raised that year. 4 Our Beneficiary Children s of Alabama has provided specialized medical care for ill and injured children across the state and throughout the southeast since It is the only hospital in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children. Children s is one of the busiest pediatric hospitals in the nation and is home to Alabama s only pediatric trauma center and the only pediatric burn center in the Southeast. Children s of Alabama treats ill and injured children from every county in the state and from around the nation regardless of their family s ability to pay. The Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children The Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children opened its doors on August 4, The 12-story building exceeds 760,000 square feet, making it the largest single medical facility expansion project in the history of Alabama. The expansion makes Children s of Alabama the third largest pediatric hospital in the United States, behind Cincinnati Children s and Children s Hospital of Pittsburg. Children s of Alabama now has 17 state-of-the-art operating rooms and two cardiovascular surgery rooms. Just the Facts Children s of Alabama is the 3rd largest and 10th busiest hospital in the country. Licensed for 332 patient beds plus 48 neonatal intensive care unit bassinets. In an average year, Children s cares for more than 600,000 outpatients and nearly 15,000 inpatients. Ten of its divisions pulmonology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, neonatology, caner, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and nephrology-were recently ranked in the Top 50 Children s Hospital Programs by US News & World Report. Provides the states only Kidney Dialysis Center geared totally toward pediatrics. Offers a Critical Care Transport program with ground and air mobile intensive care units which brought 932 patients to Children s last year. 8,072 kids from Tuscaloosa County were cared for by or visited Children s of Alabama in 2012.

6 How You Can Help? UADM wants to thank you for your kindness and consideration in supporting this cause. By becoming a partner with UADM, you are choosing to become a part of our fight to beat pediatric diseases and cancer! Monetary Donations Monetary donations are the most useful to UADM because they allow us to maximize the direct contributions to our beneficiary. Monetary donations go towards things such as putting on our Dance Marathon, celebrating Miracle Kids birthdays, and reaching out to students and families in Tuscaloosa. Product Donations Product donations are also greatly appreciated. Product donations are used to help us reduce our costs, motivate our participants to fundraise more, and as a secondary method of fundraising through auctions and raffles. Catering During Dance Marathon we serve meals to the 750 dancers and 100 volunteers and committee members. These meals are crucial to the success of UADM, as they alone sustain participants for the duration of the 10-hour event. In order to support the evolving demands of UADM 2013, our Partnerships Committee is currently working to procure a wide variety of food donations to provide each participant in our program a well-balanced meal and an energy-rich snack.
