3 Will Golf 4 Kids Tournament & Color of Hope Gala Every August, more than 2,500 people come together over the course of two days for two phenomenal events to raise money for Arkansas Children s Northwest. Champions for children will gather on Thursday, August and Friday, August 2, 2019 at Kingswood Golf Course and Bella Vista Country Club for the Will Golf 4 Kids Tournament and on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers, AR for the Color of Hope Gala. Together, these events have raised more than $16 million for children. The Will Golf 4 Kids Tournament, founded in 1993 by Walmart, is a four-person scramble, with morning and afternoon tee times on both Thursday and Friday. The Color of Hope Gala, founded in 2005 in conjunction with the tournament, features a gourmet dinner, live entertainment, dancing, special speakers and spectacular live and silent auction items. This year we re going GOLD at the Color of Hope Gala to highlight Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. 10 2019 Champion Child Tori Johnson When 9-month-old Tori Johnson was dropped off at daycare in October of 2015, she was her usual self smiling and waving to her mom Erin. But in a few short hours, everything changed. By mid-afternoon, Erin and Tori s dad, Matt, had no idea what was causing Tori to throw up and be so lethargic. They quickly found themselves at the local Emergency Department waiting to be airlifted to Arkansas Children s Hospital in Little Rock something was happening in Tori s brain. At ACH, Tori s family was told the devastating news: Their baby girl had brain cancer and hope for long-term survival was low. With no treatment, they believed Tori would only live for maybe two weeks, but if we did decide to move forward with a treatment, she might gain nine months, Erin says. Tori underwent an immediate procedure to relieve pressure off her brain, and the days that followed were a blur of tests. Three days later, Tori had surgery miraculously, her neurosurgeon Dr. Albert, was able to remove the entire tennis ball-sized tumor. Tori s family learned she had a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer called AT/RT. This type of cancer is hard to treat with even some of the highest doses of chemo but Tori had a chance because Dr. Albert was able to remove the whole tumor. After six months of high dose rounds of chemo, three stem cell transplants and six weeks of radiation, Tori showed no evidence of cancer. Today, the energetic 3-year-old is in the maintenance phase of treatment to ensure her cancer remains in remission. She has periodic check-ups with endocrinology, neurology and hematology/oncology. Because of the support of donors like you, Tori is able to see specialists at Arkansas Children s Northwest saving their family countless hours of travel. The doctors and nurses at Arkansas Children s not only saved Tori's life when she was diagnosed at such an early age with brain cancer, but they saved our family, Erin says. The support and help that we received while in treatment meant the world to us. We want to do anything we can to give back to our community and the hospital that means so much to us.
