NEWSLETTER May 2017 We had a very busy April 2017 with a grandeur celebrations of Vaisakhi, closing of SRS membership and getting a step closer in acquiring the 'Church Property'. The first Sunday was the last day to get voting-eligible SRS membership for There were some last-minute efforts to improve the somewhat lackluster membership drive. For some reason, Sangat was not very eager to get membership this year. Nevertheless, the membership list has been prepared and presented to B.O.Ts. in the meeting held on April 23, This list is on display at the notice board for everyone to view. You can have the corrections of names, addresses and/or omissions, if any, done before the end of June As per constitution, the list must be displayed on the board by June 1st, 2017, but this list is already there more than a month in advance. No changes to the list will be entertained after July 1st, We had grand celebrations of Vaisakhi in fact, this year saw the most participation ever in Vaisakhi celebrations. The day was celebrated with Bhog of Sri Aakhand Paath Sahib followed by Dhaadi Vaaran, Katha and Gurbani Kirtan. Amrit Sanchar was also done during this occasion. Sangat changed Chola of Nishan Sahib with great love and devotion. Gurmat School students expressed impressive discipline and enthusiasm when singing Shabads during the ceremony amid roaring JAIKAARAAS of Bole So Nihaal. The security requirements for the event were addressed with the help of Officers Pardeep Singh Deol and Vikram. Some of the Sangat members also volunteered to perform vigil. We would like to recognize and thank EIGHT (names not permitted to be printed) Sangat members who readily accepted the responsibilities to be on guard for Sangat s safety. With Waheguru's blessings, the contract to purchase the property commonly known as church property has been accepted and signed by the seller. We would like to thank Mr. Madan Khatri, a broker, for finalizing this deal for SRS. Mr. Khatri brokered this deal for no fees. The purchase price of the property is $630,000. The BOT s in their meeting on April 23 rd, 2017 has unanimously approved to apply for a bank loan, not exceeding $450,000. So far the Sangat has donated about $217,000 towards the purchase price with pledges of around $80,000 due to be fulfilled. 2 P a g e

4 The $450,000, loan amount, seems to be more than what we need. We will draw only the amount that would be needed to complete the transaction, for example if we can procure the pledged amount to the extent of $80,000, then we will draw only $333,000 plus closing costs and any other expenses. ($630,000-$217,000-$80,000= $333,000) illustration only. A referendum date has been fixed for May 28 th, The SRS membership of 2016 will be eligible to participate in this referendum. Letters regarding the referendum have been mailed out to the Sangat. 30 days notice for referendum is required by our constitution. Please join and participate fully to exercise your right to voice your opinion. It has been noticed that the practice of fliers being put on the cars by event holders, is causing a nuisance. Frequently, they are thrown away by the Sangat in the parking lot or they fly off in windy conditions. Some of these fliers were seen in the neighbors' yards which would cause inconvenience to them. We need to be very cognizant that we do not do something that will hurt our relations with our neighbors.
