1 LEADERSHIP Summit 2018 September 24, 2018 Friends Camp South China, Maine ADVANCE PROGRAM Cost: Free for ENCorps Members Registration Deadline: September 14,
2 WELCOME! Welcome to the 2018 Encore Leadership Corps Summit! This year we are meeting at the beautiful Friends Camp in South China. The theme will be "Finding Common Ground" as our members continue their work with diverse volunteers and organizations throughout the state of Maine. This year's Summit will also be focused on building connections within ENCorps, so while our programming will feature speakers with volunteer and leadership experience, there will also be a focus on ENCorps members sharing stories and knowledge with each other. Some of the key highlights of this year s program include: A morning Keynote on leadership with Linda Silka Workshops led by local experts on volunteer and community organizing, mediation/conflict resolution, and age-friendly communities Team building and camp activities such as a nature walk, arts and crafts, and a historical tour of Friends Camp Focused discussion groups to share questions and stories from ENCorps member's personal volunteer experiences We are excited to present the 2018 Encore Leadership Corps Summit to support, inspire, and celebrate the important work that you do as community volunteers. If you are new to ENCorps, our annual event is a great way to learn more about our program and the support we provide to experienced Mainers who are making a difference every day in their communities. Thank you for joining us for the 2018 Summit and we hope you find it valuable and re-energizing. Sincerely, ENCorps staff and partners 2

4 Morning Activity Descriptions Interest Groups In this session, Summit attendees will break into groups to share stories and discuss benefits and challenges of different fields of volunteer work. There is a wealth of knowledge about volunteering within our ENCorps membership, and this is an opportunity for members to teach and learn from each other! Potential discussion topics include: environmental work (trail maintenance, recycling efforts), food security/ending hunger, working with children, community building/working with a grassroots organization, and working in a church or faith community. Afternoon Activity Descriptions Camp Activities Summit participants will break into smaller groups and Friends Camp and ENCorps staff will lead activities such as a walk on camp trails, arts and crafts, board games, or a historical tour of Friends Camp including the Meetinghouse. Workshops Resolving Conflict: Theory and Skills to Find Common Ground with Debbie Mattson You will learn theory of conflict resolution and practical skills to move conflict towards mutually acceptable solutions. You will have opportunities to use the skills during the workshop; making it easier to apply them in your life, work, and volunteerism. Connecting Communities through Age-Friendly Initiatives with Patricia Oh Maine leads the nation in the number of cities and towns that have committed to being "age-friendly". This workshop will explore what it means for a community to be age-friendly and discuss how age-friendly committees create change that benefits residents of all ages. A successful age-friendly initiative involves buy-in from residents, businesses and community organizations, and elected leadership. In this workshop, we will talk about effectively engaging residents, building partnerships, and advocating for age-friendly changes. Participants will leave with proven approaches to age-friendly work that they can use in their own communities. Leading Through Recognition with Laura Seaton What motivates volunteers to give their time to us? Learn how to activate your volunteers through invitation, recognition, and talent development. 4
