North Texas Panhellenic Council What s Inside -Meet Pan Exec -Upcoming dates -Tips for the month -Roll Call -Panhellenic Woman of the Month Monthly Newsletter February 2016
A letter from the President Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to read our Panhellenic newsletter! We've had a busy start to the semester kicking the year off with our annual Leadership Retreat. Every Chapter President and Panhellenic Officer met at Camp Compass to get to know one another better and prepare for the academic year! The Greek Life Office also hosted a Panhellenic Summit for all Chapter advisors and officers. The summit was a productive day for everyone to discuss goals for the Panhellenic Community. The Panhellenic Executive Board is already busy working on ideas from the summit! I'm eager to serve the incredible members of the Panhellenic community this year and grateful for the opportunity. Let's have a great year Mean Green! Grace Larsen

What We ve Done This Month We hosted a Panhellenic Summit Panhellenic Exec and several chapter representatives attended Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values Conference (AFLV) in Indianapolis Selected a Recruitment Team at Panhellenic Pride Hosted two Panhellenic photoshoots for the chapters and the executive board Each chapter paired up for sister sorority day with the themes being one of the four pillars of Greek Life (Leadership, Sisterhood, Service and Academics) Our community participated in and fundraised for Eaglethon, which raised over $17,000 for Cook s Children s Hospital
Tips for the Month Focus: Scholarship Knowledge Nuggets By Jessica Gall For Students: Having trouble studying? Two time Guinness world record holder Dave Farrow says that learning in small bursts (maybe one chapter or online quiz at a time?) followed by a short break can help increase memory and your stamina to study! Resource Tip: The Writing Lab- The writing lab offers writing help to any student free of charge! They have locations in Willis Library (Room 123) and Sage Hall (Room 152) as well as online tutoring. Check out writinglab.unt.edu for more information, times, and to schedule an appointment. For Alumni: WANTED! We are looking to provide more opportunities through the existing academic improvement, academic excellence, and new member scholarships. We would love to increase the scholarship amount. We are currently seeking donations for our scholarship awards. Those who donate would be able to help set up the parameters for who can apply for it (in conjunction with the Greek Life Office) and name the award. Also it is tax deductible. But we d also be interested in setting up new scholarships for all women, women of a particular classification, or some based on other factors, like community service involvement or major.
Roll Call We are very excited to have an amazing executive team who are already doing some incredible. We started this semester with Diamond Days celebrating an initiation of three Fall 15 women. We are super excited to begin working with are Greek Week partners and the fact that we launched a new website with a whole new look. As president, I am truly blessed with the amazing opportunities that have been given to me by being a part of this chapter, and can definitely say the same goes for the rest of my sisters. It is such an honor to be a member of this chapter and the Greek community at the University of North Texas. 10 Delta Gamma The sisters of Delta Gamma had a Sweet Tea with DG event on campus to raise money for their philanthropy, and they started hosting a weekly yoga run by their president. They are excited for the upcoming year with Greek Week, Recruitment and the new exciting changes in Panhellenic. -Have won Greenest Greek award 3 out of the past 4 years -Were the winners of Greek Week in 2015
This month our council went to Orlando, FL for NCTA to learn about leadership specific to Kappa Delta, Feb 5-7. We held an event called Love Doesn t Hurt which informed fellow UNT Eagles through chocolate candy give-a-ways and information about abusive relationships on Feb 11. We participated in Pan Pride with our Panhellenic community by dancing to the Cheetah Girls and congratulating all of the new Recruitment Team. We had our annual Friends Don t Bully event encouraging Girl Scouts to be kind. We spent time getting to know our sister sorority for this semester, ADPi, through our scholarship based mixer One Smart Cookie. We learned more about each other s traditions and histories, enjoyed a cookie bar, and collected school supply donations for Denton ISD. Our final event hosted this month was KD Quesadillas where we raised money for a sister in need. We are excited for the upcoming year! Kappa Delta -KayDee Quesadillas this year was one of the most successful the chapter has had -Friends Don t Bully, an event inspiring confidence, had 30 Girls Scouts attend
The Zeta Sigma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma is one of the eight Panhellenic sororities at the University of North Texas. We are a proud group of women that strive to achieve the highest standards. We aim to succeed in our friendships, academics, philanthropy and our leadership. Our sorority provides the foundation for these aspirations, and we do our best to achieve them. Alone, each Kappa brings unique qualities to campus, but together we make a difference. Already this year, we ve began making that difference. We ve successfully installed new officers, accepted a beautiful new member class and sold carnations for Valentine s Day to benefit the Denton Animal Shelter. We can t wait to see what the rest of the year brings! Kappa Kappa Gamma - President attended AFLV -Had the opportunity to receive a spring new member class -Had a give back night at Fuzzy s
Pi Beta Phi UNT Pi Beta Phi is made up of 115 confident, poised, intelligent, and kind-hearted women who live every day to the fullest. I am so happy you came across our page and can t wait for you to learn more about our sisterhood! Every Friday in the month of February we go to a low-income school to read books, write poems, and spend a little extra time developing children s literacy skills. Literacy is our true passion! This month we had a sisterhood event where they made Valentines cards and delivering them to the Good Samaritan Society Assisted Living Facility. WE also paired with the sister s of Kappa Kappa Gamma for a Monmouth Duo sisterhood themed sister sorority event. We are excited for this upcoming year as our main semester philanthropy events are coming up quickly. We love our community and UNT! Go Mean Green! -Hosted an event with Theta Chi on Alcohol Awareness -Had the opportunity to receive a new member class -Member Courtney Gilstrap was the Miracle Maker at Eaglethon for raising the most money
This month we ve held lots of events. So far we ve had a sisterhood event where we did yoga together, Pink-ed out the Super Pit, sold flowers alongside Kappa Kappa Gamma to raise money to give to the Denton animal shelter, and had a Galentine s themed sisterhood event where we all went to see How To Be Single. One of our goals was to improve attendance at non-mandatory events. So far, we have succeeded in this because our events have been VERY creative and fun! Our sisterhood and philanthropy chairs have done an amazing job so far. We re so lucky to have them! -Had the opportunity to receive a new member class Zeta Tau Alpha -The chapter attended Zeta Days in Austin
Panhellenic Woman of the Month The Woman Behind The Letters Melinda Frank Nominated by her chapter because of her willingness to help a sister whether it is from her own chapter or another Panhellenic sister. An example given was one of her sisters tweeted that she wasn t feeling well and she responded I ll have my phone on loud in case you need me. When sisters need a ride to the airport or anywhere else, she always volunteers and gets her shifts covered. This month s Panhellenic Woman of the month is Melinda Frank. This is Psychology major, Patrick Dempsey loving Alpha Delta Pi came to join a sorority to be apart of something bigger then herself. I remember walking into Spring recruitment craft night after a long day at school but no one seemed to mind, Frank said. They were interested in knowing me as a person and what I hold near and dear to my heart. An inspiration of Melinda is her mother. Her mother has health issues but never fails to put a smile on. I really try to live my life how she does and I wish to make even a fraction of an impact that she has on other people, Frank said. She always puts everyone before herself, and I just try to do the same. This same ideal is carried into her dream job: college professor. She is determined to make an impact on students. I want to be able to make an impact on students and really be someone that students can come to, Frank said. If I can help even one person realize their passion I will be the happiest person around. Melinda has never turned down helping out a sister whether Pan or ADPi. For example, one of her pan sisters who was in her math class got sick and had to miss a few classes. Melinda took two sets of notes in class and drove them to her dorm as well as give her updates on the class. The woman behind the letters is selfless and has a big heart. She has the determination to lead and the kindness to match. I don t think there is an ideal sorority woman and to me that is a huge part of what Greek life stands for, the individuality of every woman that is a part of it, Melinda said. I think that a sorority woman should just try to be a leader and be kind to the people that are in her life and to the people she interacts with.. We are all such unique individuals and that s one of things I love about all of our chapters here at UNT. -Alpha Delta Pi -Spring 15 - wants to be a college professor -Loves Grey s Anatomy -close to her brother and mother
