Grade 3 Music Performance Grades 1, 3 and 5 Music Concert On Wednesday 5 September the children in grades 1, 3 and 5 performed their Music Concert for their families. 3 September 2018 The Albert Park News YOUNG ICT EXPLORERS COMPETITION The students should be commended for their hard work and commitment over the last two terms. They have been designing and creating digital solutions to real world issues. This year there were 75 entries from grades 3 to 12 with 45 of these being from grades 5 and 6. Our entries consisted of:- BLIP: is an anti-bullying and stress relief website dedicated to empowering kids all over the world to cope with bullying. Stressless: It is a website to help people overcome things, such as depression, high tempers etc. by using mindfulness and other techniques. Mindfulness is good for many things including helping people calm down. We think anger and depression issues are a big problem throughout our community. Pocketfire: Is a small fire extinguisher which can detect small fires before becoming big fires. The extinguisher has a trigger and an adjustable nozzle to spread the co2/fire resistant powder or direct it to the source of the fire. This is achieved by connecting a small fire/smoke detector to the container. The detector has a built in alarm that activates when there is a fire or smoke. The detector also can connect to a wifi transmitter which connects to a mobile device app. We believe by connecting a fire extinguisher, smoke/fire detector and wifi transmitter people will be able to detect and extinguish small fires so they don t become big fires. Well done everyone!!! 3

Thanks to everyone who came along in support; record numbers this year helped to raise $7,300 for the school! Congratulations to James, rocking a lime mesh top and leg warmers, and Lily, bobbing along as an apple, as our best dressed adult and child (both pictured). FUNDRAISING THANK YOU Starting with the Fathers Day Stall we would like to say a big thanks to Inge and Jolijn for choosing such beautiful gift for the children to choose from and also to Mel Rochford and Kath Davis for the delicious chilli sauce I hope you lucky dads who received some sauce for Father s Day enjoyed it! Also thanks to the huge team of mums who helped the children select just the right thing for the special man in their lives. Blokes Breakfast Once again the school oval was a sea of children and their special men, as they all enjoyed breakfast together to celebrate all the wonderful men that are a part of our school community. Special thanks to the BBQ team Michael DeKleuver, James McClenaghan, Andrew Duncan and Adrian Fung who fired up the BBQ at dawn, cooking sausages and egg and bacon rolls. 4

Albert Park PS were awarded Runner-Up on the day in the Sculley Cup Division - Congratulations to all the Dads who participated! I am also glad to report that there were no injuries!

Dave Cafferkey has been instrumental in leading and organising the Albert Park Dads Footy team since the competition commenced in 2013.

The rain just held off for this lovely school community event. A huge thank you to all the wonderful parent volunteers who help to raise the extra funds that make APPS such an amazing place to learn! The Albert Park Dad's Footy team, the DADS FOOTY end of an era! School, attracts over 400 Dad's from 14 Primary Schools across Melbourne. Dad's Footy aims to support men's health through the spirit of community, friendships and physical activity. The Albert Park Dads did us proud at the Carnival having a first up draw against Newport and then coming out for a big win against our friendly neighbourhood rivals, Middle Park PS. Albert Park PS were awarded Runner-Up on the day in the Sculley Cup Division - Congratulations to all the Dads who participated! I am also glad to report that there were no injuries! 2018 marks the end of an era for a number of our Grade 6 Dads. Dave Cafferkey has been instrumental in leading and organising the Albert Park Dads Footy team since the competition commenced in This has included scouting potential players each year, organising training and catch-ups at the Pub for the Dads to get to know each other, providing jumpers for the Dads to wear on Match day, as well as coaching and leading the team. The Albert Park Dad's Footy team, the 'Seahorses', had a great day out at the recent Dad's Footy Carnival held at Murphy Reserve, Port Melbourne, on September 1. The Dads Footy Carnival, which is hosted by Port Melbourne Primary DAVE CAFFERKEY You will be missed Dave - thank you for the huge contribution you have made to APPS Dad's Footy!
