2 Principal s Corner: Father s Day Breakfast and Stall The Father s Day Breakfast was another very successful morning even with the challenge of a little bit of rain. We had a fantastic morning with a large number of dads attending. Thank you to the Castles family who provided the bread rolls for the breakfast, all the teachers who helped out and Marc Pavlosky who assisted with the cooking. The Father s Day stall was another big hit with the children. A big thank you to the P&C for organising this event for the children and all those parents who helped out on the day. This ensured our stall ran very smoothly. Thank you to all the families and businesses who donated items to be purchased. I received some very positive feedback about the children who displayed beautiful manners while at the stall. NAPLAN Last week our grade 3 & 5 children received their NAPLAN results. These results indicate how your child went on the test day, with many of our children having their first experience of these test conditions. As a school we use the results gained from these tests for trend line data on the success of our current programs across the school. As a school some highlights from our overall trend line data indicates that we again had a high percentage of children in the top two bands for our grade 3 Reading. The data also indicated some excellent results in the growth of our student learning from grade 3 to 5 in both Numeracy and Spelling. Congratulations to all the children and teachers involved in these tests and thank you to our families for supporting your child s learning. If you have any questions regarding your child s results please contact your child s classroom teacher. Hats A reminder that the children are now required to wear their school hat. With the start to Spring the UV levels increase and hats are needed, please ensure your child brings their hat to school. Mrs Doonan LSL Next week Mrs Doonan will be taking some long service leave, for the last two weeks of this term. We hope Mrs Doonan enjoys a well-earned break. 5 CAMHS & Schools Early Action Program (CASEA) Session 3 Aims: To help students understand the ra onale for stopping the progression of anger To help students iden fy different ways to calm down strong feelings To give students opportuni es to prac ce different ways to calm down strong feelings Brainstorming ways to manage Anger: The session is focussed on helping students understand that feeling angry is ok and just like other feelings, but it is not ok to react in any way we want to. Iden fying many different styles of coping with anger, to enable students to find the strategies that work best for them. Sharing ideas helps students to learn that there are many different ways of managing anger, which are more or less effec ve depending upon the individual student. Calming Down Strategy: Students learn strategies to assist them to calm down when they begin to feel angry. This involves students recognising their body signals which are telling them they are angry, immediately moving away from the situa on and then engaging in strategies to reduce feelings of anger. Ul mately this will allow students to problem-solve (this last step is discussed in more detail next week). Some strategies include:- Calming Down Space: Relaxa on: Count to Ten: Using Coping Self-Talk: This is a special place, which may be real or imaginary, that each student iden fies where he/she feels safe and calm. Students learn to reduce body tension associated with feelings of anger through relaxa on. Students also learn to take deep breaths to slow down their breathing. Students prac ce coun ng to ten while taking deep breaths in between each number. This can some mes be enough to prevent students im pulses to react aggressively. Students learn to talk to themselves (in their own minds) in a helpful manner in an a empt to control their anger be er (e.g., Stay cool, I m not going to let it get to me, or I m going to be ok ).
