UE GREEK LIFE is founded on five pillars that shape our community. These pillars help us strive for excellence in our everyday lives as well as gain a well-rounded college experience. We invite you to become part of the tradition and explore your potential as a member of the Greek Life community. Scholarship Greek letter organizations were founded on the principle of successful scholarship. The Greek system at the University of Evansville continues this tradition. Through study tables, tutoring, and other programs established by each chapter, Greeks help their members succeed academically. All sororities and fraternities have specific grade requirements for joining, as well as for remaining in good standing. The all Greek GPA for Fall 2015 was 3.14 and the all student GPA was Leadership Membership in a Greek organization is a great way to discover and refine your leadership potential. Within each chapter there are numerous opportunities to assume a variety of leadership roles. Members share important responsibilities in operating the chapter. However, leadership is not limited to the chapter; there are many Greeks who play an active role in other campus organizations. Sororities and fraternities encourage their members to get involved in other facets of college life that build leadership skills. About 63 percent of Greeks on this campus are active in other campus organizations. Greeks are involved and hold offices in almost every major campus organization, including the Student Government Association, Orientation Leaders, Admission Ambassadors, Student Activities Board, Crescent Magazine, LinC, hall councils, and resident assistants. Philanthropy The University of Evansville Greek community supports a strong tradition of service to our campus and our community. This past year the Greek community raised more than $40,600 in charitable gifts and contributions and reported over 6,000 hours of service to various causes. Each sorority and fraternity focuses on its national philanthropy, but they also donate services to a number of local agencies. Because of the strength in numbers and organizational qualities found in our Greek community, members achieve great success in aiding the community. Lifelong Sisterhood and Brotherhood Sisterhood and brotherhood are terms that mean more than wearing Greek letters, attending meetings, and going to parties. It means that you have found a place you can call your home away from home. Ritual, scholarship, giving yourself to the community, and the feeling of belonging create lifelong bonds of sisterhood or brotherhood. Sisterhood and brotherhood mean joining a group of women or men in love and friendship. Social Interaction The University of Evansville Greek system provides a diverse selection of events to expose members to a wide variety of social programs. Formals, Musical Madness, Greek Week, Homecoming, intramural sports, and mixers all support the goal of bringing together fraternity and sorority members to develop the bonds of friendship. Development of values, traditions, and honor contribute to the Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council commitment to social programs that enable personal development. All Greeks maintain a responsible social policy promoting the Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council standards for careful planning of safe social activities. The cost for many social events is covered through membership dues. All social events are optional, and the chapters understand that academic commitments come first. 2 3

3 Dana Clayton, EdD Vice of Student Affairs and Dean of Students The University of Evansville Greek system is one of the best in the country. Outstanding scholarship, remarkable service, vitality, and friendship are the foundational pieces that make our program exceptional. The men and women who belong to our fraternities and sororities are some of the highest-profile leaders on campus, both in and out of the classroom. Sisterhood As you go through recruitment, you will notice that no two sororities are alike. Each chapter has its own sense of individuality, and there is a common bond among the members of each chapter that is also unique and private. When you associate yourself with a sorority, you are not just meeting new friends, you are becoming a part of a sisterhood. You will enjoy the benefits of friendships that will last a lifetime. Sisterhood is bonding together while striving for similar goals. Being a part of a sorority is something that cannot be compared to anything else. You are among women who share the same values you have. To know of its existence is one thing, but to experience it is another. Chris Sweeney Assistant Director for Greek Life Being a member of a fraternity or sorority can be one of the most beneficial and developmental opportunities at UE. Through membership, you can connect with peers whom otherwise you may have never met, give back to your community, tackle campus issues, and have fun. The fraternity and sorority community looks forward to meeting you! Be a part of a great segment of university life be a part of the UE Greek Community! 4 5

I am a stronger and more confident woman because of Alpha Omicron Pi. If someone would have told me as a freshman that I would eventually become the president of AOΠ, I would have told them they were crazy! I definitely could not have made this journey alone, though. My sisters have given me so much support over the last three years with not only sorority stuff, but also school and in my personal life. My sisters in AOΠ have always seen things in me that I would otherwise not notice. My favorite thing about AOΠ is that our chapter is full of so many different personalities, but we all have a common trait of goofiness. Greek life on UE s campus is truly unlike any other campus. We are a tight knit community and are always willing to help one another. I am so proud to wear the letters of AOΠ, but I am even prouder to be known as a Greek from the University of Evansville. Greek life at UE is about belonging. We may all wear different letters, but overall we are a family and we stand together through all obstacles. Greek life has allowed me to learn more about my abilities, and brought me out of my shell more than I ever thought possible. I never thought I could be a leader, but through Greek life, and especially AOΠ, I have realized that I am able to flourish because I have the support of so many amazing women. There are millions of stereotypes about sororities, but what they don t tell you is that it s mostly about empowering and inspiring women to reach their highest potential. 6 XΩ UE Greek life has given me a place to call home and a community I can always count on. From philanthropy and community service events to Greek mixers and lifelong friendships, these organizations and the people within them have brought more joy to my life than I could ever imagine. When reflecting on the sisterhood I have found within Chi Omega, I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such passionate, strong, incredible women who push me to become the best version of myself on a daily basis. I never thought that I would join a sorority. I came to UE for their academic programs, and while I hoped to find a group of friends, my studies were my highest priority. I went through recruitment because I thought that it would be a good way to meet people, and along the way I fell in love with Phi Mu. Phi Mu has helped me to gain confidence, andleadership skills and has helped me to become a better version of myself. During my time in Phi Mu, I have held four different leadership positions, served on six different committees, and have been named to the Dean s List for academic success multiple times. I strive to live out our values of Love, Honor, and Truth every day, and I know that my sisters will always be there for me. Even as I m looking at what I am going to do in the future, I know that I will always have a home and support system in Phi Mu. I could never have imagined how Greek life would impact me when I accepted my bid from Phi Mu. Being a Phi Mu has allowed me to meet women who encourage me, who challenge me, who support me, and who will be by my side through anything. I have had the opportunity to become a leader and to contribute to philanthropic causes that do great things. Greek life at UE is a diverse community of people working toward bettering themselves. 9 DOZ Delta Omega Zeta Who are we?: DOZ is a local sorority founded at the University of Evansville, meaning there are no other chapters in the nation. DOZ boasts a modest chapter size, which makes it easier for members to get to know each other on a personal level. The small size also allows them to have much lower dues. The chapter has a house on campus that three women live in during the semester. Recruitment Schedule Delta Omega Zeta Recruitment starts on August 27, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. and concludes on Thursday, August 30, Chapter Name: D Nickname: Zeta Founded: August 27, 2005; Locally founded September 26, 1964 Fall 2017 GPA: 2.74 Spring 2018 GPA: 2.88 Philanthropy: National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Evansville Youth First Symbol: Butterfly Colors: Blue and Yellow n Sisterhood n Academics n Philanthropy n Morality Madeline Staley When I first came to college I did not want to join a sorority all of the movie and TV show stereotypes gave them such a bad reputation, and I did not want to be apart of that. Freshman year two girls from Delta Omega Zeta (DOZ) came up to talk to me and my roommate during Welcome Week (at the Greek Life Lunch), they were the nicest girls asking us if we were thinking of joining Greek Life and then not pushing it or talking about their sorority when we said no, they just sat down with us, eating their lunches and talking to us about life. It was not until the Spring semester of my Sophomore year, that I went to Rush, which was one of the best decisions of my life joining DOZ was another. These girls are not only my friends but my family, but I know I can always count on them to make my day and be there to support me when I need it the most. They are a support system that will be with me for the rest of my life, and I cannot wait to watch my sisters change and grow throughout their lives. Dues and Fees New Member Dues and Fees $75 for the first semester $200 every semester after that Being a part of Greek life at UE has greatly influenced me not only as a student, but has helped me grow significantly as a sister. During my time as a Delta Omega Zeta, I have learned to better myself through community service and how to grow best as a leader. My sister have helped create a welcoming environment that truly makes DOZ feel like home. Through the bonds of sisterhood, I have learned to be a strong sympathetic leader. I m proud to call myself a UE Greek. Eileen Rasmussen 16 17

10 History and Tradition Interfraternity Council The Interfraternity Council is the governing body of fraternities. It consists of two members from each fraternity and each fraternity president. The executive board is made of five elected members from the fraternities. The IFC maintains self-governance over the fraternities, and plans and supports recruitment, Greek Week, publicity, and interfraternal programming. The purpose of the Interfraternity Council is to create positive interaction among member fraternities, the campus, and the community, and to regulate standards as defined by the University of Evansville and the national and international fraternity members. Brotherhood Brotherhood is the bonding of men of various backgrounds, beliefs, places, and eras around a singular set of life-directing commitments. There are oaths, obligations, and peer accountability. For those with whom we ve forged a connection that s deeper than just beers on Saturday nights, or Spring Break trips together. A connection born on the day we spoke the oaths that made us fraternity men together. Recruitment Important Dates! It has given me a chance to be part of something bigger than myself and has given me the opportunity to make lifelong friends. At Lambda, we are a laid back group of guys who focus strongly focus on volunteering in the community and being active on campus. However, two years later, I can assure you that going Greek was the greatest decision I have made so far at UE. FIJI has opened up various opportunities for me. The main opportunities being the chance to be a leader, academic help, service events, and networking that comes from joining an international brotherhood. Through FIJI, I have gained friendships that will last a lifetime and a bond that I can share with over 170,000 men. Besides friendships within FIJI, I have gained strong connections with members of various other organizations due to how close the Greek system is here at UE. My advice to all incoming freshmen is to take the chance and rush. Even if you have no aspirations to join, clear your preset notions on what Greek life is all about and meet the brothers of different fraternities. You ll get good food and who knows, you may be like me and get lucky enough to find a group of guys you re proud to call your Brothers. When first arriving to college I was excited to branch out and join groups that truly defined who I am. However, I did not want to lose sight of why I was at college, which was to excel academically and grow within my values. Phi Gamma Delta not only allowed me to take full advantage of the social and philanthropic perks of college, but the brothers I have gained have also pushed me to succeed in my classes. Through their support and encouragement, I can say that my years at UE have been the best of my life Isaac Martin Dues and Fees* Housing: $2,450 Dues: $600 Parlor fee: $150 *Fees are listed by semester cost

It s never too late to give Greek Life a try.
