10 THE WIRRAL COASTAL WALK Sunday 12th June Plenty of time to get fit!! We are hoping to gather a team of about 20 people to walk up to 15 miles. Would YOU consider joining us and raising funds for MCTC? Perhaps you have a friend or family member - or dog - who would walk with you they can get sponsors too. I (Angela!) will be doing it with POPPY again some of you may have sponsored her 2 years ago when we thought she didn t have long to live Well, she is still with us and is hoping to walk about 5 miles, You can walk 4, 10 or the full 15 miles. It s a great day out and a brilliant opportunity for fundraising for the Centre. We have set up a JustGiving Page to make it easy for your sponsors you just have to go to and set up your own page linked to ours let us know if you have any difficulty with that. If you can t walk with us, maybe you would help us to get more sponsors by sharing this with all your contacts and through your social media.

13 MEDIA RELEASE FROM WIRRAL COUNCIL 22 nd February 2016 Spotlight on Youth auditions to be held next week Chance to perform on the big stage at the Floral Pavilion Event is a fund-raiser for the Mayor s Charity Auditions will put talented youngsters in the spotlight Auditions for talented local young people to take part in this year s Spotlight On Youth night take place next week. Singers, comedians, poets, dancers, bands indeed, anyone with a talent in the performing arts who are aged 19 or under are urged to come forward and try out. Spotlight on Youth, which has been staged every year for more than 30 years, takes place at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton, on April 24 th. The open auditions will take place on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd March at the Civic Hall in Wallasey Town Hall between 6pm and 9pm. The shows are always a sell-out and raise money for the Mayor of Wirral s Special Charity Appeal. Announcing the auditions, Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Les Rowlands, said: This annual event has showcased the talents of many local youngsters while raising thousands of pounds for the Mayor of Wirral s Special Charity Appeal, which supports local charities. We are looking for young musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, sketch-performers, bands and more, as wide a variety of entertainment acts as possible. Last year s sell out show raised more than 3,000 from this one night event, so you will not only be taking part in a very enjoyable event, you will be raising money for charity. Tickets are already on sale for Spotlight on Youth on April 24 th from the Floral Pavilion Theatre Box Office or online at The show will be compered by local entertainer Chris Jones and - as it is every year - will be professionally staged, giving young performers the chance to experience treading the boards possibly for the first time. 15 MEDIA RELEASE FROM WIRRAL COUNCIL 12th February 2016 All outstanding faults to be repaired by late April Additional teams have been assigned to repair street lights Council seeks long-term solution to street lighting issues Council stepping up street light repairs Wirral Council has announced immediate plans to step up efforts to tackle street lighting repairs and has put in place a program of repair that will see all defective lights across the borough fixed by the end of April. Cllr Stuart Whittingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Technology Infrastructure, said: Sadly, this year we ve seen increased levels of vandalism and unreported collision damage, which has contributed to a higher than normal number of outstanding faults. We have not been able to respond to this increase as well as I would like, so we are taking special action to deal with the backlog. I d like to apologise to residents for not responding sooner to their concerns. In our recent Residents Survey, a high proportion of respondents told us that they wanted the council to prioritise improvements to our roads and highways, the cleanliness of our streets and pavements and to help the police and others tackle anti-social behaviour. This special street light repair plan shows that we are listening to them and addressing their concerns. The measures we are taking means all outstanding repairs will be completed by the end of April. Cllr Whittingham added that the situation had been made more frustrating for residents because those who reported a light fault were not kept updated as to the progress of their report. He said: This is an important issue for us and we have put in place additional support to speed up replies to residents. A group of volunteers, who have a range of caring and relevant professional experiences will also be on hand to help. Replacement care will be provided by a domiciliary care team of your choice when required. There is no charge but we do accept donations. 21 New café opens in Wirral to support people dealing with dementia Cafe Connect opens in Heswall to support people dealing with dementia. Every Thursday 2pm to 4pm. Cafe Connect in Heswall aims to provide a welcoming, friendly and informal environment for carers and patients A new café has opened in Wirral to support people dealing with dementia. Café Connect is the first dementia Friendly café to open in Heswall. The café opened on November 5 and aims to provide a welcoming, friendly and informal environment for carers and those they are caring for, with dedicated listeners, refreshments and advice. Members of the Heswall parish teamed up with the Methodist and Catholic Churches along with Mid Wirral Rotary Club to develop a team of over 40 volunteers which means that the café can run on a weekly basis. We started organising the project in April, so it has been ongoing. According to Alzheimers UK there are currently 850,000 people with Dementia in the UK and by 2025 this will be 1m people living with the illness. Jacky said: It s for the families who have to deal with dementia,- for them to have a nice time together. The people that come to the café are so positive and all the volunteers are so welcoming. Before the opening training volunteers received training from the Alzheimers society.jacky said: We must have trained about 80 people. Not all have joined the café but it has helped with awareness in the community. Café Connect will run each Thursday between 2pm and 4pm and a specialist nurse will call in once a month to sit and talk with the community group and answer any questions.

24 Meaningful participation for disabled people 2016 The Disability Partnership (Sense, Mencap, Scope and The National Autistic Society) is joining forces with NHS England to host a public participation event in March, following up the two successful events held in 2015 and 2014 in Taunton and Peterborough. The event will focus on enabling and supporting people with disabilities, service providers and commissioners, to work together to ensure meaningful participation in health and social care.
