2 Welcome to Amandean s Collagen E-Book! What is collagen and why do we need it? Collagen is a naturally occurring protein found exclusively in animals - essentially a glue for our bodies. It is the most important building block of our skin, nails, hair, joints, ligaments, and cartilage. Biologically, it forms as part of the connective tissue that gives skin its firmness. Table of Contents As we age, our natural collagen production slows - down to 50% of peak production by age 60. As a result, our skin gets thinner and becomes more prone to damage. 6 HAPPY GUT. Leaky gut is a hypothesis that digestion issues can lead to the improper absorption of vital nutrients. Gluten, cow dairy, sugar, and GMO foods promote bacterial growth in the lower intestine, causing an inflammatory response. In turn, this inflammation promotes systemic conditions such as: arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, eczema, hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease and more. Avocado A good dose of healthy fats like omega-3 is essential for keeping digestion regular. Alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and oleic acid are key fats provided by avocado. Also a good non-meat source of protein. Banana Low levels of glutamine, a common problem for people suffering from Leaky Gut, may be associated with an increased loss from the body of minerals such as magnesium and potassium.
