Scopus Course/Module Coordinator: Eduardo Duniec, Ph.D. Coordinator eduardo.duniec@mail.huji.ac.il Coordinator Office Hours: By Appointment Teaching Staff: Dr. Eduardo Duniec page 1 / 5
2 Course/Module description: The course focuses on different theoretical and methodological approaches to the concept of personality. It presents the complexity of the concept and different ways of defining it, as well as different approaches and tools to the research, analysis and assessment of human personality: classical psychoanalytic theory (Freud), post- Freudian approaches, the behaviorist approach and its criticism of the concept of personality, the social learning approach, the cognitive approach and the humanistic approach. Throughout the course we discuss and analyze the basic assumptions and principles upon which each theoretical approach rests, as well as the ways in which each approach explains normal and abnormal development and behavior. Course/Module aims: 1. To provide a basic understanding of how different theoreticians conceptualize and study human personality. 2. To understand, compare and apply multiple psychological perspectives to the research and assessment of human personality. 3. Apply different theoretical insights to the understanding of the person seeking psychological help. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate broad and deep knowledge of the concept of personality. 2. Understand the different theoretical approaches into the study of human personality. 3. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to the concept of personality at both the theoretical and methodological level. 4. Critically read articles about personality theory and research. 5. Apply psychological insights to the understanding and treatment of the person in need of psychological help and his/her family.
