Since 1977, rehabilitation professionals from around the world have come together to learn about brain injury with the goal of discovering effective, new ways to resolve common challenges and achieve optimal outcomes. Keynote presentations will focus on Neuroimaging, a Survivor s Perspective on Recovery, and Mild Brain Injury. Other presentations will focus on cognitive technology and cognitive rehabilitation, fatigue, and serving veterans. Presentations will also address behavior, spirituality, sexuality, pediatric neuropsychology, relationships, and family intervention. Conference faculty includes well-known, talented individuals with substantial clinical and clinical research experience. Plenary and breakout presentations will highlight empirically based, practical solutions to major challenges. Learning opportunities will include didactics, demonstrations, and case problem solving. For those desiring an in-depth, hands-on training experience, the threeday conference will also feature two pre-conference, day-long workshops. Conference Site Historic Williamsburg is the site of an exciting chapter in America s past the largest outdoor living history museum in the country. Tour back in time with pre-revolutionary period taverns, colonial residences, public buildings, and shops. Registration Fees The cost to attend the two-day (Thurs/Fri) Conference is $245; $155 for Thursday only; $145 for Friday only. PreConference Workshop (Wed) is $135. Full three-day Conference is $365. Workshop 1 Family Intervention after Brain Injury: Working with Adults and Adolescents Presented by Caron Gan RN, MScN, AAMFT, Jeffrey Kreutzer Ph.D., ABPP, FACRM and Taryn M. Stejskal, Ph.D., LMFT Presented by an international team of practicing clinicians and clinical researchers, this intensive family intervention training workshop focuses on the most important challenges that arise for therapists who work with families and survivors after hospital discharge. Topics will include: Family adjustment after injury Outcome measures and evaluating change Family systems theory, solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy Specialized family intervention techniques Interviewing and psychosocial assessment Complex situations, families and clients Didactic instruction, demonstrations, and case problem solving will be used to help participants successfully intervene in their most challenging and complex cases. Workshop 2 Cognitive Rehabilitation: Techniques, Applications and Efficacy Presented by Rick Parente, Ph.D. This workshop summarizes various models of neurorehabilitation along with several treatments with demonstrated efficacy that are appropriate for treating various cognitive disorders secondary to stroke and traumatic brain injury. Specific topics include: A profile of successful cognitive rehabilitation behaviors Differentiating short-term, working, and longterm memory and strategies for retraining Therapeutic techniques for improving learning and memory, executive functioning, social skills, and fostering hope Strategies for retraining decision-making, problem solving, and conceptual learning Prosthetic devices with proven efficacy and how to determine which will be most effective for their clients Training executive skills including organization, recognizing non-verbal communications and self-expression 50 Person Limit per Workshop
