4 COURSE OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the program the participant should be able to: Apply current guidelines and evaluation and treatment strategies to common issues in sleep medicine, i. e., insomnia and sleep disordered breathing; recognize, evaluate and treat interstitial lung disease; evaluate and manage cough; apply the most current guidelines and strategies in screening for lung cancer; Recognize pre-diabetes and understand the impact of lifestyle versus medical interventions in preventing progression to diabetes; apply current understanding of subclinical hypodisease on thyroid function; discuss the pathophysiology and current approaches to care of thyroid cancer; apply the most current guidelines and evaluation and treatment strategies in a physician; Use cardiac testing methods in the risk assessment of asymptomatic patients; discuss important distinctions of cardiovascular disease in women; recognize the primary care current treatment strategies available; describe the applications of echocardiography and discuss the interpretation of EKGs and arrhythmias relevant to the practice of primary care providers; Apply current evaluation and treatment methods for patients with dementia; recognize and appropriately manage pharmaceuticals in the elderly and when to prescribe or de-prescribe methods in geriatric patients anticipating surgery; describe and apply cognitive testing Apply current understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment options for current strategies to evaluate and treat patients with gout and pseudogout; interpret and discuss autoantibody labs in the diagnosis of rheumatologic diseases; assess the current disorders; and immunotherapy in the treatment of cancer; apply the current strategies to evaluate and treat patients with prostate cancer; apply current evaluation and treatment methods for patients with cancers of unknown primary; Interpret and discuss liver tests in the diagnosis and management of liver diseases and other illnesses; evaluate, treat and appropriately refer patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; apply current evaluation and treatment methods for patients with hepatitis B and hepatitis C; describe the primary care issues and management strategies for patients with cirrhosis; Apply the latest evidence in the evaluation and treatment of common and uncommon headache syndromes; discuss the pathophysiology of stroke and the treatment options available for acute stroke and stroke prevention; evaluate and manage encephalopathy in the hospitalized patient.
