2 Overview The field of pediatric otolaryngology continues to evolve with new technologies, treatment options, and advanced scientific knowledge. The meeting will discuss the latest updated relevant topics of pediatric otolaryngology with a focus on otology, rhinology, head and neck, and the airway. Objectives At the completion of the course, the participant should be able to: * List the challenges to treating refractory tube otorrhea and discuss latest treatment options. * Explain the current antibiotic treatment choices for otitis media. * Discuss the controversy of medical or surgical treatment for otitis media. * Describe the diagnostic evaluation of pediatric sensorineural hearing loss. * Discuss the role of universal newborn hearing screening. * Assess the diagnosis and treatment options of auditory neuropathy/dyssynchrony. * Discuss the challenges that exist in tympanoplasties and the options for treatment. * Explain the radiographic findings of the temporal bone and the indications for the various studies. * Explain the latest understanding of genetic hearing loss. * Describe the medical and surgical treatment for microtia and aural atresia. * Discuss balance disorders in children. * Discuss the difficult cases of pediatric otology and the various perspectives of challenging cases. * Explain the minimally invasive techniques to treat pediatric airway obstruction. * Describe the evaluation for pediatric dysphagia. * Discuss the challenging pediatric airway cases and the numerous treatment options. * Integrate an algorithm in the evaluation of pediatric chronic cough. * Explain the diagnostic evaluation and medical management of pediatric rhinosinusitis. * Explain the indications for endoscopic skull base surgery treatment options. * Recognize the surgical role in the treatment of pediatric sinusitis. * Discuss the presentation of pediatric cervical lymphadenopathy. * Discuss when sclerotherapy and OK-432 are indicated for cystic head and neck masses. * Explain the different techniques that are currently available for tonsillectomy. * Identify the differential diagnosis of pediatric balance disorders. Who Should Attend This meeting is for otolaryngologists, pediatricians, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, audiologists, speech therapists and other interested health care professionals. Continuing Education Credit The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professionals are awarded 1.25 continuing education units (CEU s) which are equal to contact hours. An application for contact hours has been submitted to the UPMC Provider Unit of the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Determination of credit is pending. Re-licensure Please note: This is the year for re-licensure. CCEHS offer a wide variety of courses that are approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. The conference will be held at the Herberman Conference Center located inside the UPMC Shadyside Cancer Pavilion at 5230 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA Overnight Accommodations The UPMC Center for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences has reserved a block of hotel rooms at discounted rates at the Courtyard by Marriott Shadyside located at 5308 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA for our conference attendees. You may make reservations at your own discretion. The room block is limited and only available until Thursday, October 16, Space cannot be guaranteed once the block expires or the block is filled, whichever occurs first. Room rates are $ per night plus applicable taxes and fees. Pay parking is available for visitors to Herberman Conference Center UPMC Shadyside Cancer Pavilion at two convenient locations. The Centre Avenue Parking Garage (across from Hillman Cancer Center) is the closest and is open from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm weekdays and 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturdays. The Aiken Avenue Parking Garage (on South Aiken Avenue) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 8 9

6 Registration Information Pre-registration The early registration period will end on October 16, After October 16, 2008, the late registration period will begin and registrations will be accepted until November 10, 2008, at an additional fee. We cannot guarantee space in the program or any program inclusions for those registrations received after this date. If space is available after this date, on-site registration will be required and incur an additional processing fee.
