2 Medical Executive Committee Approvals The following items were presented and actions were approved at the November 13, 2012 Medical Executive Committee meeting: Treasurer s Report A. September Treasurer s Report Family Practice Department A. Revised Rules & Regulations for the Department of Family Practice, Article III Definition of Activity Revisions: See Medical Staff Bylaws.The following patient contacts will be used to determine activity for the members of the Family Practice Department. Admissions-PCP actually admits and cares for the patient Admission H & P s performed by PCP Ongoing hospital care may be turned over to consultant or Hospitalist H & P s for surgical patients PCP performs H&P for surgical procedure Consultations Assists in Surgery PCP assists surgeon on surgical procedure Involvement with care of specific patient = Patient must be in the hospital for at least 24 hours. Chart must contain a note that the patient was seen and examined by the PCP and that the PCP concurs with the plan of care as discussed with the physician in charge. Care of long term patients, PCP must visit a minimum of 3 times. Each visit the PCP must chart a progress note stating that I have examined patient and concur with the treatment plan as discussed with the physician in charge. CRITERIA FOR CONSULTATION Consultation is specially urged in the presence of the following conditions: 1. Renal Failure 2. Complicated cardiac conditions 3. Unexplained jaundice 4. Unexplained coma 5. Complicated poisoning 6. Bacterial endocarditis 7. Gasterointestinal hemorrhage 8. Uncontrolled seizures 9. Severe or unexplained bleeding or anemia 10. Fever of undetermined origin 11. Respiratory insufficiency The above listing is not all-inclusive. Consultation should be sought for the above conditions and any other seriously ill patient where consultation, in the judgment of the responsible physician, would be consistent with acceptable patient care. Consultation may be sought under the following circumstances: 1. When the patient s condition warrants a specialist consultation, e.g., cardiology, neurology, or pulmonary. 2.
