2 Treating Women Differently: The Case for Sex-Based Medicine Course Director: Since the passage of NIH Revitalization Act of 1993, mandating the inclusion of women in federally funded clinical trials, there has been a growing body of evidence that sex differences are found in all body systems beyond reproductive health. Sex differences can have significant and underestimated consequences in clinical medicine. New scientific and clinical interest is arising in sex- and gender-based medicine. The objectives of this conference are to highlight gender-based differences in diagnosis and treatment in the specific areas of Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Pelvic Health, Psychiatry and Rheumatology. Please join us as we highlight the Women s Centers for specialty medical care at Northwestern Medicine. Program Objectives After attending this educational activity, participants should be able to: 1. Enhance patient care with a heightened awareness of gender-based differences in multiple medical and surgical specialties 2. Audience The content of the program is appropriate for physicians and other healthcare providers caring for female patients. Registration Fee The fee is $55 for physicians and $25 for trainees, nurses and other healthcare professionals. A buffet lunch and refreshments are provided. Space is limited.
