Prlnged expsure t drugs alters the brain in ways that result in pwerful cravings and a cmpulsin t use. These brain changes make it extremely difficult t quite by sheer frce r will. Myth 2: Addictin is a disease; there is nthing yu can d abut it. Mst experts agree that addictin is a brain disease, but that desn t mean the user is a helpless victim. The brain changes assciated with addictin can be treated and reversed thrugh therapy, substance abuse cunseling, medicatin, exercise and ther treatments. Myth 3: Addicts have t hit rck bttm befre they can get better. Recvery can begin at any pint in the addictin prcess and the earlier, the better. The lnger drug abuse cntinues, the strnger the addictin becmes and the harder it is t treat. Dn t wait t intervene until the addict has lst it all. Sjurner Recvery Services is a cmprehensive drug and alchl addictin treatment prvider in Butler Cunty. In the Fall 2016, Sjurner cntracted with the PC Mental Health & Recvery Bard t pen Preble Cunty s first residential treatment center fr wmen. Sjurner Recvery Services ffers a cmprehensive cntinuum f care, which includes Pre- Cntemplatin services, Nn Intensive Outpatient services, Intensive Outpatient services, Residential services, Recvery Husing, and a Peri-natal prgram. Thrugh the use f evidence-based practices we prvide a cmplete spectrum f gender specific services fr wmen, men, and adlescents. Prgrams are held in a supprtive, caring envirnment designed t help clients regain their sense f self-wrth as they learn hw t becme and stay clean and sber. Medicatins are available t treat herin addictin while reducing drug cravings and withdrawal symptms, imprving the dds f achieving abstinence. There are a variety f medicatins that can be tailred t a persn s recvery needs while taking int accunt c-ccurring health cnditins. Treatments include: Methadne (Brand name: Dlphine & Methadse): It has been arund fr ver 25 years. It is apprved fr piate detxificatin and maintenance nly in apprved and certified treatment prgrams. Patients typically need t visit a center daily fr treatment and fllw-up. Buprenrphine/Nalxne (Brand name: Subxne) Treats herin addictin and may have a lwer risk fr withdrawal effects upn discntinuatin. Nalxne is present t help prevent the intravenus abuse f the buprenrphine cmpnent. Buprenrphine is primarily used at treatment nset. Patients are then switched t the cmbined Buprenrphine/Nalxne agent fr utpatient maintenance therapy. Cautin: Buprenrphine has becme a ppular drug f abuse. ED visits invlving buprenrphine increase substantially frm 2005 t 2010, increasing 900%. Trying t get n with life after yur child has died is very hard, because at first, every minute can be full f reminders. Yu might think that yu are lsing yur mind, but yu are nt yu are respnding in a very nrmal way t a tragic event. Create a supprt system. Gather caring friends and relatives wh truly understand yu and what yu ve gne thrugh; thse wh yu knw will be there fr yu when yu need them-- -t listen, t be cmpassinate, t supprt and encurage yu. Individual therapy and a supprt grup are very useful while yu are trying t srt thrugh the prcess f grieving, trying t pick up the pieces f yur life, and trying t make plans fr the next phase f yur life. Grief is a natural respnse t the lss f smene r smething very dear t us. Lsses that may lead t grief include the death r separatin f a lved ne, lss f a jb, death r lss f a belved pet, r any number f ther changes in life such as divrce, becming an "empty nester," r retirement. Anyne can experience grief and lss, but each persn is unique in hw he r she cpes with these feelings. Sme respnses are healthy cping mechanisms, while thers may hinder the grieving prcess. The acknwledgment f grief, time, and supprt facilitates the grieving prcess, allwing an pprtunity fr a persn t apprpriately murn a lss and then heal. Cmmn Reactins t Grief r Lss The stages f grief reflect a variety f reactins that may surface as an individual tries t make sense f hw a lss affects him r her. An imprtant part f the healing prcess is allwing neself t experience and accept all feelings that are experienced. The fllwing are the stages f grief: Denial, numbness, and shck: This stage serves t prtect the individual frm experiencing the intensity f the lss. It may be useful when the grieving persn must take actin (fr example, making funeral arrangements). Numbness is a nrmal reactin t an immediate lss and shuld nt be cnfused with "lack f caring." As the individual slwly acknwledges the impact f the lss, denial and disbelief will diminish. Bargaining: This stage may invlve persistent thughts abut what culd have been dne t prevent the lss. Peple can becme preccupied abut ways that things culd have been better. If this stage is nt prperly reslved, intense feelings f remrse r guilt may interfere with the healing prcess. Depressin: This stage f grief ccurs in sme peple after they realize the true extent f the lss. Signs f depressin may include sleep and appetite disturbances, a lack f energy and cncentratin, and crying spells. A persn may feel lneliness, emptiness, islatin, and self-pity. Anger: This reactin usually ccurs when an individual feels helpless and pwerless. Anger can stem frm a feeling f abandnment thrugh a lved ne's death. An individual may be angry at a higher pwer r tward life in general. Acceptance: In time, an individual may be able t cme t terms with varius feelings and accept the fact that the lss has ccurred. Healing can begin nce the lss becmes integrated int the individual's set f life experiences. Remember, thrughut a persn's lifetime, he r she may return t sme f the earlier stages f grief. There is n time limit t the grieving prcess. Each individual shuld define his r her wn healing prcess.

Hw effective the cping mechanisms are can determine the length f grief. Des the cping help yu mve n? Or des the grief linger and becme debilitating and harmful? Keep these tips in mind: Dn t be t hard n yurself if yu are still grieving lnger than yu think yu need t. Hw yu grieve and hw lng it takes yu t get thrugh it, is different fr each persn and if yu suffer mre than ne lss, yu might grieve differently fr each ne. Create a rutine. It can be resuming an ld rutine r creating a new ne. Either way, having a rutine can help relieve sme f the grief by prviding structure and expectatins n a day-t-day basis. Try t avid drastic r majr life changes fr several mnths after the tragedy. Eat right and get plenty f exercise. These healthy activities are beneficial even when nt grieving, but they can be especially helpful when cping with emtinal pain. Find smene t talk t abut the lss. Nt everyne will benefit frm talking t thers, but mst peple will Engage in activities that allw yu t express yurself. Having a hbby can prvide an emtinal utlet fr yur grief and a way fr yu t express what yu are feeling in uncnventinal ways. Sme might feel that simply talking t their friends is enugh, and it might be at first, but at sme pint, the grief might becme t strng t handle in this fashin. Yu shuld seek help when: Difficulty with nrmal tasks If grief is inhibiting yur ability t live yur life fully, that s the first big sign that help may be needed.
