1 Spiritual Mral Scial and Cultural Educatin Plicy Intrductin recgnises that the persnal develpment f pupils, spiritually, mrally, scially and culturally, plays a significant part in their ability t learn and achieve. We are a Values Based Learning Cmmunity. We cnsider that values are imprtant in encuraging happy and well-mtivated learners, having a duty t themselves and thers. Thrugh trust and respect children feel safe t develp individual strengths while shwing care and understanding fr thers. We take very seriusly ur respnsibility t prepare children fr life in mdern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are intrduced, discussed and lived ut thrugh ur Values-based philsphy that infuses the eths and wrk f the schl. These Values are: Mutual Respect and the Tlerance f thse with different faiths and Beliefs. Demcracy. Rule f Law. Individual Liberty. We therefre aim t prvide an educatin that prvides pupils with pprtunities t explre and develp their wn values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards f persnal behaviur, a psitive caring attitude twards ther peple, an understanding f their scial and cultural traditins and an appreciatin f the diversity and richness f ther cultures. All curriculum areas have a cntributin t make t the child's spiritual, mral, scial and cultural develpment and pprtunities fr this will be seen in every area f the curriculum. The schl recgnises that there are children f ther faiths and we make sure that the integrity and spirituality f pupils frm all faith backgrunds will be respected and explred. The diversity f spiritual traditins will be recgnised and celebrated. All adults invlved in Castilin will mdel and prmte expected behaviur, treating all peple as unique and valuable individuals and shwing respect fr pupils and their families. The schl cmmunity will be a place where pupils can find acceptance fr themselves as unique individuals, and where frgiveness and the pprtunity t start again is fundamental t the eths f the schl. Pupils shuld learn t differentiate between right and wrng in, with a fcus as t hw their actins affect ther peple. They will be encuraged t value themselves and thers. Pupils shuld understand the need fr rules and the need t abide by rules fr the gd f everyne. Schl and classrm rules shuld reflect, reiterate, prmte and reward acceptable behaviur and prvide pprtunities t celebrate pupils' wrk and achievements. All curriculum areas shuld seek t use illustratins and examples drawn frm as wide a range f cultural cntexts as pssible. This will be reflected in teacher's planning and teaching and thrugh subject leader s verviews. S.M.S.C. Plicy Page 1
