Our 2020 Impact Goal By 2020, to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent. Achievement of this goal could save an estimated 863 lives everyday.

5 THE VISION OF GO RED FOR WOMEN In 2004, the American Heart Association (AHA) faced a challenge. Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an older man s disease. To dispel the myths and raiseawarenessofheartdisease&strokeasthenumberonekillerofwomen,theahacreated Go Red For Women, a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. This grassroots campaign is a vibrant and diverse national movement led by women and men committed to breaking their silence about the risk of cardiovascular disease to women. GoRedForWomen encourages awareness of the issueofwomenandheartdisease,and also action to save more lives. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives themthetoolstheyneedtoleadahearthealthylife. Each year, leaders & advocates in our community come together to raise funds to support awareness, research, education and community programs to benefit women. These funds allow us to help women by offering educational programs, advancing women s understanding about their risk for heart disease and providing tools and motivation to help women reduce their risk to protect their health. Funds raised by Go Red For Women activities also support research to discover scientific knowledge about heart health. We turn this science into materials and tools that healthcare providers and decision-makers can use to help women. It s time to Go Red for the 1,000 women who die from heart disease each day.
