1 EDITION 14 12th October 2012 A message from the Principal, I am so excited! We have only 4 more sleeps until it s show time!! I hope you all have your tickets for the production because I believe the show is a sell out. On a more serious note I am giving everyone advanced warning to expect wholesale changes to bus transport in We have lots of new prep students and 14 senior students who are graduating. This will mean the bus runs will change and so will your pick up and drop off times. We will be letting families know as soon as we are advised by the bus companies of any changes. I appreciate the upset this causes to everyone but there is absolutely nothing we can do about this except give you plenty of warning and cross our fingers. At the moment we ask our families to pay lots of small amounts of money for cooking and swimming as well as other things. This is becoming increasingly difficult to administer as our school population grows. Senior management have discussed this and I put a proposal for a change to this system in 2013 to our school council. School council have ratified the changes at our last school council meeting and in 2013 parents will be asked to pay program levies the amount of which are based on our current charges. The charges will be: Per Term Per Year Junior School $70 $252 Middle School $80 $288 Senior School $90 $324 For those of you who receive EMA it will be a good idea to set some of that money aside to cover the charges as the school no longer has access to the EMA allowance so we are unable to administer it for you as we have in the past. Of course there will be opportunity for a weekly payment plan and a discount for those who pay for the year in advance. A letter will be sent home shortly with full details. 3 OFFICER TURNS ITS FIRST SOD As many will know Cathy Smith has been instrumental in getting the Officer school built. Shortly before the holidays Cathy and her son Mitchell helped the Honourable Martin Dixon and M.P. Brad Battin and team turn the first sod of earth so building can finally commence. Our school community is sincerely grateful for the many hours of work Cathy has put into campaigning for this much needed school but we are not yet sure if we will let her enrol Mitchell! Asthma Australia has partnered with CareMonkey in order to contribute to the safety and well-being of people with asthma. Parents can create a profile for their child in CareMonkey which can be shared with trusted carers, including family, friends, teachers and sports coaches. Vital information such as emergency contacts, health and safety alerts, medications, allergy details, asthma plan and more can be easily shared. Consider creating a profile for your child with asthma (or other medical condition) and share this with others including the staff at your school or preschool. 6 Autism App s By Touch Autism - Free from the App Store Description Autism Apps is simply a comprehensive list of apps that are being used with and by people diagnosed with autism, Down syndrome and other special needs. It also includes links to any available information that can be found for each app. The Apps are also separated into over 30 categories, and the descriptions are all searchable, so any type of app is easy to find and download. Autism Apps was created as a resource for anyone looking for apps for people diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other special need. Many people are discovering the many uses that ipads, iphones and ipod touches can have as tools and resources for people diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome or other disability. Though there are a multitude of apps in the app store that many people diagnosed with autism, Down syndrome or another special need use and enjoy, they can be difficult to find. Autism Apps links to extensive reviews of the apps written by parents, specialists, and other users usually from first-hand experience. Autism Apps also has links to video demonstrations or video reviews of the apps when they are available.

7 Feeling Groovy News Rehearsals are now underway for this years whole School production. Students are having a great time practising their songs and routines. Thank you to everyone who returned the performance attendance form earlier this term, it has given us a base to start developing routines and characters for individual performances. If you haven t yet returned the performance attendance form, please let the teacher know if your child is going to participate as we will be organising costumes and finalising dance routines in the coming days. Thank you to all the parents who offered their help, it is much appreciated. We are putting a call out for 60 s outfits, this includes mod, hippie and everything in between. So if you re cleaning out your wardrobes, please think of us.
