1 ETHAN Who we are The Education and Training Hub for Autism Needs (ETHAN) is a registered Non Profit Company (CIPC ). ETHAN is comprised of a group of energetic professionals who are committed to creating awareness about autism spectrum disorders and empowering families and individuals affected with autism spectrum disorders. Our goals are: To educate and support the families of individuals affected with autism Raise awareness and understanding of autism spectrum disorders and promote the rights of individuals affected with autism to be treated with dignity and respect Provide respite care for family members of children affected with autism April Autism Awareness Month Projects: 2 April is World Autism Day, as declared by the United Nations. The month of April is used globally as Autism Awareness month. Most notably, Autism Speaks, the largest autism non-profit challenges communities and iconic building across the globe to Light it Up Blue for Autism. Huge landmarks like the Empire State Building, Eiffel Tower, Sandton Tower, Table Mountain etc. are lit up in blue for this period. Families are encouraged to show their support for autism by lighting up blue. For example, the entrance to their homes or their porch/stoep can be lighted up blue. The sky is the limit. 3 Project 1: Light it Up Blue for Autism (April Autism Awareness Month) Event Description: Light it Up Blue for Autism April is Autism Awareness month. There is a global campaign to light the world up in blue in order to raise awareness about autism. Event Details: Date: 2 April 2016 to 30 April 2016 Venue: Whole of Mossel Bay Time: Month of April Event Mechanics: Arrange with companies like; Game, Pick n Pay, Steyn s, Builder s and Home, Van s Electrics and smaller light suppliers to have displays in their store and sell blue lights/globes for autism awareness month. A portion of the sales then gets donated to the ETHAN Project. Get a solar light company involved to supply blue solar lights Run a newspaper campaign to raise awareness about autism starting late March Encourage community members to buy blue lights and light their houses up blue in support of autism Get business and malls to participate See how blue we can get Mossel Bay to go (in 2015 we lit up the caves at the point, the Anglican church, NG Church and Lighthouse by placing a blue Perspex filter over the existing spotlights) Light the caves blue at the Point Lights come down on 30 April. 5 Project 2: Friday 15 April 2016 Event Description: Butterflies for Autism Night Walk This will be a night walk. The aim of the walk is the raise awareness about autism and our autism related projects. The Mossel Bay community supported this walk in 2012 and The 2012, 2015 walks were held with our partner the Big Autism Thing (a group of walkers who walk all along the coast from Durban to Cape Town to raise awareness and funds for autism). The Night Walk will begin and end at Milkwood School and proceed through the centre of Mossel Bay town. Event Details: Butterflies for Autism Night Walk Date: Friday, 15 April 2016 Venue: Start Milkwood School, End- Parking lot at Milkwood School Time: 4:30 pm late registration 5:00 pm Program Starts (speeches, short play, butterfly release) 6:00 pm sharp Night Walk starts Event Mechanics: Butterflies for Autism Night Walk Participants register on-line for the walk. Last-minute registrations will also take place at the start line. Get the Mossel Bay Town as BLUE as humanly possible before the event (Businesses down Marsh Street (material/ light bulbs) 5:00 pm Program starts with a short welcome and introduction, play and butterfly release. 5:55 pm participants meet at the gathering point- Milkwood School 6:00 pm sharp the walkers start Walk proceeds from Milkwood school sports ground. Left at the Point stop street around to Bland Street, up Church Street, Left in Marsh Street, around the Point and back in to Milkwood School Sports Ground.. We stop at the caves at the point and light the caves and lighthouse up in blue, then proceed with the walk. A small play will be hosted talking about differences using a caterpillar evolving into a beautiful butterfly. The message of the play will be we are all different and beautiful in our own way. We might at this point release live butterflies into the sky.

6 Spot prizes for walkers and a prize for the best dressed go BLUE for Autism person Group disperses after prize giving We can use anything to make the walk as festive as possible; blue balloons, lighting up blue, blue material on tree-posts (like the Cancer drive), glow sticks, glow in the dark paints etc.
