Your child s first gymnastic lesson

4 Your child can attend the first lesson as a casual lesson where you only pay for one lesson. Casual lessons are a great way to introduce your child to gymnastics where you only pay for one lesson before committing to a full terms payment and annual Registration. This lesson will consist of the use of various equipment where your child s skills will be observed by one of our accredited coaches to ensure your child is enrolled into the most suitable and appropriate class. If you choose not to return after the casual lesson, your child will be removed from the class roll and the position given to another child. If for whatever reason you are unable to attend the second lesson, but do intend to join, please advise us so your child s place in the class is held. All our classes except for Kinder gym (parent participation required) are DROP OFF & PICK UP classes. Please assist by saying a quick goodbye to your child and leaving the gym area. We understand that the first class can be difficult so will allow you to stay closer if your child is unsettled, but will encourage you to move to the waiting room otherwise. At the end of Term 4 we will have open classes where parents can come and view their child s progress Arrivals and Departures: The safety of your children is very important to us so please adhere to the following procedures Starting Starting on time means that all athletes will get the most out of their class. Please be prompt to class. Warm ups at the beginning of each class are vital to the teaching of basic body positions, stretching, as well as fun and fast games and socialisation. Remain with your child if you arrive early. Our coaches are busy either setting up or coaching and cannot be responsible for children left unattended in the waiting room Finishing Gymnasts SHOULD NOT wait outside the gym, as the car park can be quite dangerous and busy. Talk to your child about staying inside until you arrive and not walking outside to look for you. Please come inside to pick up your child (don t sit in your car and wait for your child to come outside) Not attending Please inform us as early as possible if your child is not attending class. They may then inform the coach responsible and therefore little interruption may occur to class. NOTE: If you would like your child to leave the gym alone, they need to bring a note at the start of term allowing them to leave unattended. What to wear and bring for your child s first lesson. Wear comfortable but not baggy clothing eg. shorts, singlets, crop tops, leotards or tights are all appropriate. School uniforms, jeans, tutus and skirts/dresses are inappropriate. Footwear/socks are not permitted on the equipment. Please bring a refillable drink bottle of water. Socks are only required when using the trampoline

5 All jewellery including rings, bracelets, watches, earrings and hair clips must be removed. (small stud earrings are acceptable) Long hair should also be tied back so as not to impede vision. Please bring a refillable drink bottle to every lesson. Gymnast Attire- Safety for our gymnasts is at the forefront of every coach. In order to provide a safe environment for gymnastics participation many coaches and administrators go to extremes to ensure the equipment, facility and programs are suitable for the gymnasts. Often it can come down to gymnasts' attire being the unsafe factor in a class situation. Wearing the appropriate attire minimises the risk of injury. All gymnasts should wear shoes and socks to and from the gym. If it is cold we request that they wear warm clothing to and from training. PS. Please check LOST PROPERTY box regularly as unclaimed items will be donated. Uniform All gymnasts are to wear the official EGA training leotard. Please see EGA merchandise catalogue. Hair must always be tied back. No shoes or socks permitted on the gym floor please and all personal items are to be stored in the allocated shelves. PS. Levels 3 10 must purchase the Competition Uniform (see Merchandise) FEE POLICY Membership fees: Parents must pay the Annual GYMNSW registration and EGA club fee along with the term fees. Registration covers the insurance through Gymnastics Australia. Gymnasts will not be permitted to participate in any activities until the annual Registration fee & Term fee is paid. *This fee is transferable to another club but it is non-refundable*. The enrolment form and payment details secures your child s spot in the class. The payment is usually processed BEFORE THE FIRST lesson. All term fees can be paid commencing week 8 of the current term & must be paid within the first week of each subsequent term. Please read the fees policy carefully before committing. 6 Fees are calculated over 8 weeks so you get 2 bonus weeks in a Term that has 10 weeks to accommodate public holidays, etc. Fees can be paid by cash, credit card, cheque or direct debit. State Gymnastics Association The State Gymnastics Association is an organisation comprised of affiliated clubs and registered members. It is the controlling body for all GymSports within the State.

15 The State Gymnastics Association is affiliated with Gymnastics Australia (the governing body of gymnastics within Australia) which is affiliated with the Federation of International Gymnastics (the governing body of gymnastics world-wide). All participating athletes, coaches, judges and officials must be registered members of the State Gymnastics Association. Registration includes an insurance package through Gymnastics Australia. All registrations are void at the end of each calendar year, therefore all members must reregister at the beginning of each year. All gymnasts are registered when the club forwards their membership payment and details to the State Gymnastics Association who then forwards on to Gymnastics Australia. Delay in payment of this fee will mean that the participant is unregistered and therefore un-insured. The main benefits of being a registered member with the State Gymnastics Association and Gymnastics Australia is that the participant will be covered under personal accident insurance and will have access to State and National events Women's Artistic Gymnastics Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) is comprised of four apparatus. Female gymnasts are required to complete a routine on each of the four apparatus. The apparatus are: Vault: Vaulting shows off the gymnast's athletic qualities, as the movement is performed after a run up of 25 metres. The gymnast must put both hands on the horse. As far as marking is concerned, the judges will evaluate the complexity of the movement, the position of the body, and the landing, which must be perfect. Bars: The uneven bars are by far the most spectacular apparatus of the competition. Imagine the strength, the precision, the rhythm, the concentration and the courage that these girls need to perform their exercises with such simplicity. The gymnast moves from one bar to the other, alternating grip changes, releases and regrasps, saltos and changes of direction with circular swings. Beam: The beam has certain magic about it. Many people wonder how the gymnasts manage to perform on an apparatus where balance, acrobatic sequences with or without flight elements, gymnastic jumps and turns all play a role. It is an exercise not only of flexibility, but also of concentration, rhythm and expression. Floor: They fly, do pirouettes, touch the floor and then leap high again into the air. This exercise is the public's favourite and they are ready to clap as soon as the music begins. Many gymnasts will tell you that they have had their greatest ovations when performing floor exercises to music. The floor is the area where a gymnast can fully express all her grace, her personality, and her technique, combining acrobatics, gymnastics and dance (GYMNSW) For more information on Women's Artistic Gymnastics click here /copy paste into browser: Tumbling Similar to gymnastics but is a single series of skills performed in a straight line on a sprung floor. Tumblers perform two voluntary passes. The skills that are performed in tumbling are similar to those in the floor exercise of artistic gymnastics but there are eight skills performed in a straight line and the pass finishes at the end of those eight skills.
