Olympic Educational Service District National Avenue North, Bremerton, WA :30 p.m. WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS 4:35 p.m. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES/AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA The March 2018 Minutes and changes to the agenda will be approved. 4:40 p.m. YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE REPORT Youth Representatives on the Commission will have an opportunity to update the Commission on youth issues and activities in their community. 4:45 p.m. PRESENTATION Tiffany Sudela-Junker from the Attachment & Trauma Network will present information on her Wholehearted, Whole-Brained Parenting projects including the amazing coloring book. 5:05 p.m. PRESENTATION Kody Russell from Kitsap STRONG will present information regarding their goals, initiatives, activities and projects. Kitsap STRONG is a community initiative to improve the health and well-being of all children, families, and adults in Kitsap. 5:45 p.m. PRESENTATION Ursula Petters will provide an update on the reorganization the Department of Social and Health Services Children Administration is undergoing and changes to the agency. 6:00p.m. DISCUSSION Meeting Time- We will discuss the pros and cons of changing the Youth Commission meeting time. It has been suggested: we shorten the meeting to 1.5 hours 4:30-6:00 pm, or keep the meeting to 2 hours and start earlier at 4:00pm. If you are unable to attend please send your comments to Laura Hyde lhyde@co.kitsap.wa.us 6:10 p.m. MEMBER HIGHLIGHT A member of the Youth Commission will have time on the agenda to introduce themselves and share about their personal and professional life.

4 Kitsap County Commission on Children and Youth MINUTES March 1, 2018 The Kitsap County Commission on Children and Youth meeting was held on Thursday, March 1, :30 p.m. at Olympic Educational Service District 114 in Bremerton. Jill Brenner, our Board Chair facilitated this meeting and called the meeting to order. I. INTRODUCTIONS Jill asked members and guests for self-introductions. II. III. IV. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES/AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA The Youth Commission s February 2018 meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE REPORT Youth Commissioners and our youth guests offered their insights as to youth activities and concerns for this month. CONFERENCE CALL We held a conference call with King County Best Starts for Kids. Carrie Cihak of King County to discuss the King County Best Starts for Kids. this program began as an initiative and was voted in. This program provides annual funding source which invests in prevention and early intervention strategies that promote healthier, more resilient children, youth, families, and communities. V. APPROVAL OF THE 2018 RFP We reviewed and approved the changes to the RFP to be released this week. Laura provided information regarding the review and award process. Laura will move the announcement forward and it should be posted with advertisement in the Kitsap Sun by mid-week next week. VI. PROJECT UPDATES Youth Mappers is right on track and the surveys are progressing. The project concludes in May. STARS This is the new name of the youth alcohol and tobacco retailer education and youth leadership development program called CANS last year. Recruitment of youth and adults will happen next month with the assessments on May 5 th. Youth Commission members are encouraged to help and join the fun! Website Laura reminded all to send in suggestions, event announcements and resources for our newly developed webpage. VII. MEMBER HIGHLIGHT There was not a member highlight this meeting as the indicated member was absent March 1, 2018 Minutes Page 1 of 3

5 VIII. Announcements/Public Comment A member of the Youth Commission has suggested that we offer a cultural competence training or series of trainings for the community. Meilana Charles of WSU Extension offered to work on developing this idea further. Please let Laura Hyde or Meilana Charles know if you would like to help with this project. Jeff Allen announced there is a Job Fair coming up for the Public and Nonprofit Sectors on March 28 th 10am-2pm in Presidents Hall, Kitsap County Fair Grounds see Worksource for more information. Laura Hyde announced that Kitsap STRONG is offering monthly ACEs, Resiliency, and Near Science Trainings see Kitsap STRONG for more information. She will invite Kody Russell to come and present next month. Bainbridge Island schools were put on campus Lock Down recently during a high-speed chase following a reported sexual assault on campus. The youth present today offered their reflections on the day and subsequent student/school response. Youth Build is up and running with 14 youth in the first cohort. All is going well. There is an upcoming training of interest: All members were invited to attend and share the announcement. E-cigarettes: Finding Truth Among the Vapors training March 8 th 12:30-4pm Contact Laura Hyde to register. IX. Adjournment & Next Meeting The meeting was adjourned and all members of the Youth Commission are encouraged to attend regularly and to sign up and participate in committees.
