This is a great money maker for our club! Without all your efforts, this event would not have been successful. Special thanks to Bec Cannistraci and his team. These guys worked long hours setting up the booth, working the booth and then tearing it down. Every evening the fireworks needed to be placed back in the storage bin, then returned to the Firework Stand each morning. Governor. We encourage each of you to consider attending this event. For more information, please check the Flyer on Page 4. A special thanks to Rae Cook, Membership Chair, for a wonderful New Members Orientation / Social Event. We had over 13 new members attend the orientation. The Desserts were great too. See Page 6 for more details. 5 June / July 2018 Page Safety Awareness Day - Foskett Ranch Elementary School Tuesday, October 2, :00 AM-12:00 Noon Contributed by Christine Cirrone Safety Awareness Day teaches elementary school children how to be safe in school, in their community and at home. Presented in a friendly, inter-active and exciting venue that young children can understand and will enjoy all organized and run by volunteers. This event is a Signature Project of the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills. A secondary, but vital, component of Safety Awareness Day, will afford children the opportunity to see our law, fire and safety enforcement professionals as people - moms and dads doing their jobs helping their friends and neighbors. It is our hope that this experience will forever impress these children that our brave police, firemen and emergency responders are people they can feel comfortable seeing in their neighborhood and asking for help when they need it. Maybe we can even build their desire to be just like one of these community hero's when they grow up! The first Safety Awareness Day was held at the Carlin C. Coppin School. The second was held at First Street School and both were a HUGE success. Our goal is to bring Safety Awareness Day into every elementary school in Lincoln on a rotating yearly schedule. Many dignitaries attended the event and will again be invited to enjoy the day along with coverage from local newspapers and television. At Foskett Ranch Elementary, Kiwanis volunteers, the Lincoln Police Department, Auburn CHP, Motor Officer and K-9, Lincoln Fire Department, California Operation Lifesaver and Union Pacific Railroad, the American Red Cross, CERT citizen volunteers of Lincoln Hills and others will set up Stations along the inside courtyard. Each child, in every grade can visit each Station to meet these exceptional people and learn specific lessons, and even receive items donated by presenters Safety Coloring Books, Badges, Stickers, etc. Of course, the cooperation and support of administrators, teachers, PTOs and staff is vital to our success and greatly appreciated. Additionally, on a day soon after the event, in order to reinforce the important lessons learned, each class will have a poster contest where children are asked to make a poster showing their favorite part of the day. Kiwanis will be happy to give the winning poster class a special treat an ice cream social for the entire class. We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful event for the benefit of the children of our elementary schools.

6 June / July 2018 Page New Membership Orientation and Social Contributed by Rae Cook On August 6 th Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills (KCOLF) hosted a very successful New Membership Orientation and Social at Michael & Mary Luciano s home. 13 of our 17 new members were able to attend and had the opportunity to learn what community service opportunities are currently available. This membership drive was overthe-top successful and will take our club from 28 members to 45 members. It was very obvious that there was a lot of talent, as well as enthusiasm in the room. We so much look forward to tapping that talent and working with our new members. We are sure that they will not only find their contributions rewarding, but fun. A side benefit of this meeting was the opportunity to get to know each other as well as our existing club. This portends a great future for KCOLF and promises to be an exciting year! I am so impressed!

Governor-Designate Beth Roberts. The Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills served as the Host Club. Lt. Governor Laird Smith presented the Distinguished Club recognition to the Kiwanis Clubs of Amador County, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Lincoln and Lincoln Foothills. The President of the Kiwanis Club of Gold Country, Greg Nichols, presented a $ check for the Kiwanis Family House to Guy Blair of the KFH Board. Approximately 80 people joined in the festivities. The food and fellowship was fantastic!! A big thank you to Allen & Beth Roberts for opening their home and to the Lincoln Foothills members for coordinating this wonderful event. Hi everyone, First, a GIANT thank you to those of you that were here last night at the DCM. We had close to 80 people attend. Luckily the weather was great and most of them were outside. I think it went great but it wouldn't have been possible without your help. For those that helped cook the Tri-Tip, delivered a multitude of Tables, Chairs, Umbrellas and other things, came early to help me set up and get ready, and stayed late to help clean up - I am so grateful. I am truly thankful for all the amazing people we have in our club. Thank you again and again and again... During the event Laird announced the Distinguished Club awards for the year and handed out the Pins and Certificates. As mentioned we were one of the recipients. I'm pretty tired today, but feeling lucky, and thankful... Best, Beth
