It s hard to believe that this year is almost over. Before we all know it, it will be The holidays are sneaking up on us very quickly. Please remember all of the staff at this time of year. Holiday parties will be in full swing soon; make sure to book your events at the Club and show off the place we love so much to your friends and family. October was a good month. Football season is in progress, and the World Series has come and gone (I was a little disappointed), but it s only a game, right? The drawdown was a great success. Thanks and kudos to the Social Committee for a beautiful job. There were so many people involved in so many ways. This is what makes our Club so successful. Our Club s annual General Membership Meeting will be held on November 12; make plans to attend. If you are unable to attend, fill out your proxy form. Just make sure that it is turned in and recorded no later than Friday November 9. Happy Fall, Y All - We had a good and busy month in October with a successful drawdown, the Shearwater Regatta that several of us cooked breakfast for on the first day of sailing, and a fun Halloween weekend. Please don t forget the Club meeting coming up this month. We need you to be there! Also, if you do not have an OSYC vehicle sticker for your car, please get one from the Club office. I m noticing a lot of cars without them. We want members to be able to park in the good parking places, and not be taken advantage of by people who are not members using our parking area. 2 From Your OSYC Board Secretary, Patti Hogan OSYC Members: As mentioned in the From the Commodore and the Board section, by our Vice Commodore, and announced in our October newsletter, our annual meeting as called for in our by-laws will be on Monday, November 12 th, 2018, in the OSYC Dining Room, beginning at 7:00 PM. The official slate of Flag Officers and Board of Governors for 2019, approved and presented to you by your current OSYC Board, is included in this newsletter. Please arrive a little earlier than the published start time for the meeting, you will help us with getting everyone checked in on our current membership list. If you are a voting member in good standing, but unable to attend, you may complete and submit a proxy form no later than Friday, November 9 th. The form is included in this newsletter), and also available on the OSYC web site ( We hope to see you at the meeting - We always support and welcome your interest and help and involvement. I welcome you to get involved with the sailing community at OSYC. It s fun, rewarding and a great way to support your club! Although the days truly are getting shorter, there are still plenty of warm days with a nice breeze. On most weekends, it s not uncommon to see several member catamarans taking advantage of some great Fall sailing. I encourage all members to come on out and enjoy our beautiful beach. The 2018 regatta season came to a close October 20 th and 21 st with OSYC hosting the annual Shearwater Regatta. Twenty boats participated in the event, and a great time was had by all. Once the fog lifted on Saturday morning, the afternoon sea breeze offered a great day of racing. Following a cold front passing through overnight, Sunday morning we were welcomed to a stiff North wind that proved to be challenging sailing for all classes. I would like to thank OSYC staff, the Race and Social committees, and all volunteers for your support. Social Committee Update & News I have been very excited to complete the article for our magazine this month. The Drawdown is done and it was a great success! I just can t say enough about the wonderful people on this Committee. We all came together and worked so hard to set up this event for the club and the effect was magical. One of our guests told me that our Octoberfest decorations were spot on and that she took pictures of our work. How cool is that! Many, many, many thanks to our Drawdown committee for your support and talent: Shannon Smith, Neal Olive, Tim Fortney, Beth Riley, Dawn Smith, Dee Boudreaux, Landy Fitzsimmons, Nancy Dorroh, Shelly Burrwell, Roger Gardner, Barbie Hughes, and Wendi Stanton. Thanks to Linda Willhoite for the lovely beer steins and her son Ben Willhoite for lending us the German flag. Plus Chris Walton, Trisha Kennerson and our amazing staff who provided the support that enabled us to pull this event together! 2 of 9

3 The donations provided for our silent auction and fishbowl were lovely, and great shout out is owed to our guests who participated in winning theses items. Due to all of the support provided by the committee and members of our club we made $8, The Social Committee will be working to determine how these funds will be used for the betterment of our Club, so if you have any ideas, please let a member of the Board or Social Committee know. I will let you know what is decided as soon as I find out. We didn t just have the Drawdown this month; we also had our Halloween on October 26 th for our adult members. We all had a great time and the costumes were so imaginative. Another event during that evening was the Cocktail Party prepared by Neal Olive and Tim Fortney. They were serving some very imaginative Halloween drinks to the partiers. The costume contest was fun and the competition was stiff. Congratulations to our winners: The Best All Around was awarded to Robin Bush, The Most Original costume was Buzz and Chris Bussard, and Best Couple were Janie and Wolf Gregston. If you were unable to come to the party you missed a great time. As usual a great time was had by all the partiers. The children got into the act the next day with their party and were warmed up for Halloween with treats, crafts and ghoulish snacks. Thanks to our staff and Linda Truesdell for making the Kid s Party happen. Your Social Committee was in action again with preparation of the breakfast on Saturday. Our club has the reputation of preparing awesome breakfasts for the competitors. Thanks to Shannon Smith, Neal Olive, Landy Fitzsimmons, Chris Minke, Dave Vandomlin, and Pat Vandomlin for cooking! Wow!!!!!! Did you see all of these awesome volunteers! So proud of everyone and can t thank everyone enough. Now on to November and the holidays. More fun to come. Our next social committee meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13 th, at 6:00 PM. 4 From Your General Manager, Chris Walton Ahoy There from Your Club! Fall has arrived and the weather is great on the deck!! The pool is OPEN and our operating hours have changed. We will be open 6 days a week. The Galley has new hours: Tuesday, Thursday from 3:00-8:00 pm, Friday 3:00-9:00 pm, Saturday 12-9:00 pm, Sunday 1:00-8:30 pm, and Sunday Breakfast from 10:30 am -1:00 pm. To make your Sunday Breakfast and Brunch a little bit better, we will have $5.00 Bottomless Mimosas every Sunday. Once a month we will continue to do a Special Brunch. This month it will be on Nov 18 th ; please, please make a reservation. It includes those Bottomless Mimosas! Our Club Hours are: Tuesday thru Thursday, 10:30 am 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 10:30 am 10:00 pm, and Sunday 10:30 am 9:00 pm. November events on the calendar: Nov 4 th Daylight savings ends Nov 12 th General Membership Meeting, Bar will open at 5:00pm Nov 11 th Veteran s Day All veterans receive a complimentary beverage! Thank You for Your Service!!! Nov 14 th Family Day dinner will be a turkey Thanksgiving-style dinner Nov 18 th will be the monthly Special Brunch Nov 21 st Family Day dinner will be a Fish Fry The Club will be closed on Thanksgiving Day so that all of our wonderful staff can spend time with their families. Grill Your Own Steak Night will be on Nov 24 th, so make your reservations early! Happy Hour at OSYC is from 3 6 pm Tuesday through Friday, offering house wines, well drinks, and select draft beers at half price. Please don t forget about our weekly Bar Bucks Drawing every Saturday at 6:30 pm (must have a minimum of 12 members present). We are at $400 as of the last drawing. If the member name drawn is not present, we have a consolation drawing for $50 in Bar Bucks for those present. Filets have officially been removed from our menu. Please let us know what you would like to see added to the menu. With Christmas coming, we will have sponsors on most Thursday nights. Please stop by and see what they have to offer towards your holiday gift giving plans. 6 2018 Annual General Membership Meeting Proxy Rules Section 4. Only Class A and Class A/C members in good standing may vote at a general membership meeting, except that: (a) In the absence of a Class A voting member from a general membership meeting, the voting privilege may be exercised by the spouse of such member. (b) In the absence of both member and spouse, a member in good standing may designate a proxy to exercise the voting privilege. The proxy shall be a Class A member in good standing, which does not include the spouse of any such designated Class A member. (c) The written proxy must be designated as a general or special: In the absence of such designation, the proxy shall be considered as special, and restricted to voting on specific matters in the published agenda of any such meetings.
