Frank, from Blackrock Financial, he will be discussing Transforming Social Security into a Winning Retirement Strategy. Through March 9th Spin CPE Sessions March 16th CPE Luncheon The cost of attending the luncheon is $25 for members, and $30 for nonmembers. Online reservations are encouraged as spots fill up quickly, but walk-ins are always welcome. To register, please CLICK HERE OSCPA s Day at the Capitol Inside this issue: CPE Luncheon 1 OSCPA s Day at the Capitol Annual Bowling Night Spin CPE Sessions The OSCPA will hosts a CPA Day at the Capitol Tuesday, February 21, The CPA Day at the Capitol is your chance to develop important relationships within the state legislature by sharing your perspectives on issues facing the accounting profession. Members from across the state will gather to become comfortable with legislative advocacy. Gain a better understanding of how Oklahoma lawmakers evaluate bills and issues when it comes to the work you do as a CPA and how the OS- CPA and our membership work to pass favorable legislation on your behalf. 2 Page 2 Annual Bowling Night We would like to thank everyone who attended the bowling night on Friday, January 27th. We had a great turnout of 84 people who had an enjoyable evening at Andy B s! We would love to see you all at our next social events in Stay tuned for the next TCOSCPA event to socialize and meet other Chapter members! Spin CPE Sessions TCOSCPA s evening CPE classes have noted several full classes, lively discussions, and lasting friendships. In 2015 and 2016 we completed two separate 10 hour CPE course series that focused on Non Profit issues, such as tax, audit, bylaws, operations and ethics. Many thanks to Eide Bailly for hosting the classes. The breaks between sessions included brief wine tastings w/ food pairings and fun conversation! This year for the evening CPE classes we are blending financial fitness with physical fitness. Evening CPE classes focus on public accounting / personal financial planning (PFP) course material, including handouts and a presentation on a large screen TV. Classes are held at the Fitness Center at Southern Hills Country Club every Thursday thru March 9 th Space is limited. To register, CLICK HERE.

3 Page 3 Chapter Items Spring CPE Clusters The Chapter is planning and coordinating speakers for the upcoming Spring CPE Clusters. TCOSCPA Leadership Scholarships The Tulsa Chapter s Leadership Scholarships are awarded by the Scholarship Committee to students attending an Oklahoma college or university. They must be an Oklahoma resident or plan on settling in Oklahoma when they graduate. Requests for applications will go out February 15th, and are due back no later than May 1st. 4 MEMBER HIGHLIGHT Every month the Tulsa Chapter turns the spotlight on a member who is making an impact in their professional accounting field and around the Chapter. These members exemplify the mission of the Tulsa Chapter of Oklahoma Society of CPAs in their professions and communities. February 2017 Highlight Kaitlin Sharpe Tulsa Chapter Member since May 2014 What was your first job after passing the CPA Exam? When I passed my exam, I was working at Grant Thornton in the Greater Detroit Area as a Tax Staff. Shortly after passing the exam and being promoted to a Senior, I transferred my credits to Oklahoma and started with my current company, CCK Strategies. What type of accounting do you do? I am a tax project manager. The majority of my clients are either foreign companies with an inbound presence in the U.S., or they are U.S. companies with a large outbound presence. As a manager, I not only manage our internal process and staff, but also the client s expectations. Client service is priority. My secondary focus is on the tax technical side. I often write or review technical memos to provide to either clients or to government agencies or I assist in various consulting projects like the Research and Development Credit. How do you give back to the Community? I volunteer at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma twice a month helping to provide children and families in need with access to nutritious foods. I am also on the board of Operation Aware, which is an organization that equips and empowers Oklahoma students to make positive life choices. What do you do in your free time? I love traveling around the world and experiencing new places. When I m not traveling, I love to ride my bike and cook. How do you benefit from your Tulsa Chapter membership? I ve been to several events hosted by the Tulsa Chapter in which I have had the opportunity to build relationships with people in my field whose work is completely different than my own. These events are a great way to not only connect with other professionals, but to also realize the diversity within our industry. Page 4
