6 Chapter Update Dear Co-workers, Remember how I said in the sleet, rain and snow of last winter that I would never again complain about the summer heat? I LIED. The Blood Drive we hosted in June was such a success, we may plan another for this year. We got 25 pints of whole blood, and Lodge member Gene Sturtz went the extra mile and donated platelets through the much longer R2 process. Many thanks to all donors and volunteers who participated. In July, Joan Willenbrock represented the Chapter at the Annual Conference in Nashville along with co-worker Char Koscal. Joan advised co-workers of developments at Moose International. The theme for this Chapter year is The Time is Now. Joan s report included the unfortunate news that 57 Chapters have been forced to close this past year. In an effort to increase membership, Moose International has adopted the policy whereby dues will be waived for any coworker that sponsors two new members during a Chapter year. Additionally, Moose Charities is endorsing a recycling program that we intend to implement once we get a volunteer to administer the program. Joan s report was full of information and peppered with amusing comments about the sights and sounds of the city. It seems Nashville really gave the red carpet treatment to those that attended even though the city has not fully recovered from the recent flooding. We are moving forward with purchasing the defibrillator for the Lodge and Chapter. We are doing 50/50 raffles at Sunday breakfast to offset the cost, which is about $1,300. So 5
7 far we have $386., plus two donations of $50. and $20. We expect the process to include training for the Chapter and Lodge Officers along with the Stewards who tend the Social Quarters. We have made progress on the new office. Electricity, new locks, painting, ceiling panels and the shelving have been completed. We need to finish the flooring, window treatments and wiring for the computer. So far we have spent $ on materials and labor. A big thank you to Barbara, Joan, Kathleen, John, Sharon, Karen, Betsey and Tim who all helped get us this far. We continue with our Sunday breakfasts, and they continue to be a success, thanks to the efforts of our coworkers. We recently served 130 and hope for at least that many for each Sunday remaining in the summer. These breakfasts are the backbone of our fundraising and working every Sunday can be exhausting. But please remember that this is a seasonal town and it s a now or never type of thing. All of these ongoing projects depend on volunteers. We have even discussed more projects, like a Spaghetti dinner, Pizza dinner or Chili cook-off. But, in addition to brainstorming and enthusiasm, we need your time and efforts to bring these ideas to life. If you get a call to help, please don t decline. If you don t get a call, but want to help, please call If we share the weight of these tasks with many, then the tasks won t become burdensome. Take care, Lynda Klebold, Sr. Regent 6
