1 A P R I L PC Procurement Round 8 PC Refresh Spring has sprung and along with the new buds and daffodils, comes the annual purchase of PCs etc. for Health and Social Care. The annual PC Refresh project replaces all computers on a rotating fouryear basis to ensure that everyone in HSCNI has the necessary and up to date equipment for their assigned responsibilities; older outdated equipment is removed from service; and the costs of service and support of the equipment is kept to a minimum. BSO ITS, acting on behalf of the Health and Social Care Board, achieves significant cost savings for the HSC Trusts and Organisations by leveraging the collective buying power of Health and Social Care in a single annual procurement exercise. The total amount spent this year was 2.4 million and in the picture you can see Eileen Dobbin undertaking the important physical audit of desktop computers, laptops, tablet devices, and peripherals. Yes she did count all of the 17,391 items. Inside this issue... 2 BSO Business Matters APRIL 2016 Page 2 Doing Our Bit at HSC Leadership Centre This year, the team at the Leadership Centre are trying to do more for charity by donating money or time. In December 2015, staff at the Leadership Centre raised money for Amethyst Outreach, a team of volunteers who go out each night and help homeless people by providing warm clothing, bedding etc.as well as emotional and practical support where possible. Goods were donated by staff and made up into hampers which were given as ballot prizes. On Christmas Eve, a breakfast was supplied and superbly cooked by the senior management team; this was enjoyed by staff, family and friends who gave a donation with all profits going to Amethyst Outreach. 3 BSO Business Matters APRIL 2016 Page 3 Doing Our Bit at HSC Leadership Centre Also in December, staff gave up some of their free time to help out at the Welcome Organisation. This charity also helps homeless people, by providing accommodation as well as clothes and other essentials. Staff were working in the warehouse area sorting clothing and food donations. As you can see from the photo the volume of clothing donations is just staggering. On 16 April, 16 staff and friends are attending Peter Kay s Dance for Live with proceeds going to Cancer Research UK but as it is very close to our hearts at the moment the team are asking for donations to MacMillan Cancer in the form of sponsorship. Donations can be given through the following Just Giving page. HSCLeadership At the end of April we are holding a SuperHero day for Cash for Kids. More details to follow

4 BSO Business Matters APRIL 2016 Page 4 HSC 2:2 Graduate Intern Scheme Following on from the success of the previous HSC Intern Scheme, the HSC wish to launch their seventh intake. The Scheme will provide recent 2:2 Graduates with an opportunity to gain substantial work experience in a managerial administrative environment in one of the participating Health and Social Care organisations, providing support to senior managers and staff in a number of areas including: Undertaking relevant research Drafting reports for senior managers Project management and admin support Supporting senior staff One place is reserved for a former Looked After Child. The Scheme will commence 5 th September 2016 and will conclude mid-august Although the majority of positions will be based in the Belfast area there will also be opportunities throughout the province in the participating HSC organisations. Participants will be paid an allowance of 13,538 for the duration of the scheme. Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing the 30 th May Closing date for completed applications: Friday 13 th May 2016 at 12 noon. 5 BSO Business Matters APRIL 2016 Page 5 22,000 raised for Marie Curie Paddy O Hara, Assistant Director Counter Fraud has raised over 22,000 for Marie Curie in memory of his late mum, Bridie who sadly passed away in October 2014 following a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Last year alone they cared for over 40,000 people across the UK. The Marie Curie nurses came in to provided expert care, guidance and support to Bridie and the entire family. Paddy said It is only when your family are faced with a terminal illness do you truly understand and appreciate how Marie Curie helps and makes a difference. They help people get the most from life, in the time they have left. The money was raised through a number of personal challenges Paddy had set himself including 2 swimathons, 5 triathalons, 3 cycle races, Dublin Half Iron Man and Barcelona Iron Man but also through a host of events such as bag packing, golf day, tea party and a mystery movie night organised by Accounts Receivable in Omagh which raised Congratulations to all BSO staff who participated in the recent Belfast and London Marathons. The night will start with a Sparkling Wine Reception at 7.30pm, host for the evening is Stephen Clements, Dinner, Rodd Hogg, Magician followed by dancing to The Bizz. I m sure you will agree 38 is a great price considering it includes approximately 7 for the charity. There will be a raffle on the night and if any staff member have any contacts that would donate a prize for the raffle please Helen.Hanna@hscni.net. The Clayton have offered special rates for anyone wishing to stay over which can be found out by contacting them directly. Bedrooms are subject to availability so I would recommend booking as soon as possible. Over the past 2 years this event has raised 6862 for local charities so here s to the third successful evening!
