As with the Lions Clubs, your Northwest Lions yeglass Recycling Center is gaining new leadership while retaining the experience of others. Your incoming officers are listed on the back page of this issue. Our valued staff and volunteers are continuing on to keep us getting it done. We have seen a lot of changes in the last couple of years. The addition of the Annex not only increased our space but allowed very positive changes to how we operate. Our great Mission Coordinators - Berta, Jody and Malena - can now operate on their own schedule without competing with our other volunteers for use of space. Some trees have been removed and some landscaping done for a variety of reasons, but partially in looking to the future. A planning committee led by Senior Advisors Bob Pinson and John Kirry is developing a plan for the expansion of the facility to meet the growing demand. I am sure there will be more information as ideas develop. As we look to the future, we see an increasing need for Lions involvement. We have many valued community volunteers but have positions that require Lions. Some of these jobs require minimal time at the LRC, so Lions from out of the area can fill these roles. Some are primarily administrative and communication can be done from home so Lions from our entire area can contribute. (cont. on p. 2) Got a question for Pres. 2 Mission Feedback Sahuaripa, Sonoma, Mexico xcerpts from a letter & mission report from VOSH - Arizona To Berta, Jody and all volunteers of NW Lions yeglass Recycling Center: Once again VOSH AZ thanks you profusely for providing prescription glasses, readers and sunglasses for the people in Mexico who have no opportunity to receive eye care and often go their entire lives not seeing well. Your service is a wonderful gift to humankind. We thank you so much. During the four days of the clinic we saw 2,180 patients and distributed 805 pairs of prescription eyeglasses. In addition, we committed to supplying approximately 15 special prescription glasses per day. More from Prez Don (cont. from p. 1) Thank you to all of the Lions throughout our Multiple District for your hours of time and effort to keep us supplied with glasses. We truly are the Northwest Lions yeglass Recycling Center. Please leave a message or contact me if you are in the area and have never seen the LRC. It has been a pretty interesting and challenging couple of years for me. Due to some unanticipated circumstances I accepted the position of President although I did not feel well prepared. Thanks to the help and support of the executive committee, staff, volunteers and all of the Lions and Clubs of our modified MD 19 your Northwest Lions yeglass Recycling Center is alive and well. 2

3 District Convention Ron Reierson, VP-Outreach, attended this conference to "show the flag", so to speak. Their guest speaker was International Director Kembra Smith from Atlanta, Georgia, who was escorted by her husband, Bill. Her daughter, also named Kembra, is a member of the Tacoma Downtown Lions Club, and prospective President! Small world. Here is a picture of I.D. As I wind down, I look at what we have accomplished and I am impressed. We have increased the amount of glasses we donate to NWLRC every year, all in part to the participation of the clubs in our district. I see more requests for our collection boxes which we did not have five years ago. I would like to thank the Lions of District G for making this job so enjoyable. I hope to see more Lions throughout MD-19 as I assume my position as president of the Northwest Lions yeglass Recycling Center. I hope to report about expansion of our site in Lacey as this will help with the growth of LRC. The new Director for District G will be Ron Johnson, a past president of the Pioneer Lions Club, who has been involved with eyeglasses since On the Road in District I Director Diane visited the Clallam Bay - Sekiu Lions Club in May and will be giving a LRC presentation to the Quilcene Lions Club on Monday, June 27th. She also reports that the Food Co-op in Port Townsend is thrilled to have an eyeglass collection box on the counter, and the feedback from the community is very positive. After only a few weeks, it was filled to overflowing when she stopped by to pick up glasses! 3
