1 October 2018 The West Seattle Junction Merchants annual Harvest Festival was a huge success. The sun was out the witches, goblins, power rangers, super heroes, princesses and many others were out in full force. Once again the WS Eagles Fishing Booth was a HUGE success. We had 800 children come fishing and go away with Gold Fish they caught. Thank you to WVP Jim, MVP Diane, Mary Corrigan, Russ Martiens and Marcus Higbee for your help!!
2 4th ANNUAL Strong4Sam FUNDRAISER at the WEST SEATTLE EAGLES AERIE #2643 SUNDAY, November 11 TH SEATTLE LA Rams, 1:25 GAME To The Bone BBQ will be hosting a fundraising halftime meal at the West Seattle Eagles Aerie #2643 during the Nov. 11th Seahawks game in an effort to raise money for the Strong4Sam foundation and Project Violet. Food, drinks, raffles & football will be had. Entry is free, but donations to the foundation are encouraged. Cash bar. 100% of the proceeds from food sales, raffle tickets, Strong4Sam products & donations go directly to the Strong4Sam foundation in support of Project Violet. Below is the story of why Strong4Sam was started. In December 2014, Jeff and Kellea Taylor received the devastating news that their youngest son, 11 year old Sam, had an inoperable brain tumor. In the following months, their family was inundated with information about brain tumors and treatment options. They learned the hard way that, while effective, the existing treatment options come with difficult and painful side effects. It was during these early months that they also learned about Project Violet, a nonprofit research group at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, started by Sam s doctor, Dr. Jim Olsen, and dedicated to discovering more effective and less toxic therapies for pediatric cancer. Born out of the Taylor s desire to do everything possible to help Sam, Strong4Sam was created as a fundraising group in support of Project Violet, which is funded exclusively through private donations. In May 2015, after raising and donating over $40,000 for Project Violet, the Taylors established the Strong4Sam Foundation with the following mission: Strong4Sam is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating community awareness and raising funds for innovative research to discover more effective and less toxic therapies for pediatric cancer. We are Strong4Sam! For more information please visit Tax ID #

8 Aerie Brothers and Auxiliary Sisters, As October comes to an end, we have the holiday season to look forward to, great fundraisers, and plenty of opportunities for our membership to volunteer. With November comes our massive Thanksgiving dinner, serving 100s of people in the community, and we need your help. Please look for volunteer sign-up sheets in the social room, sign up, follow through, and help feed the people of West Seattle. October provided us with a great deal fun and entertainment. The Harvest Festival in the Junction was great, putting smiles on the faces of several hundred children with the fishing for goldfish (crackers) booth. Thank you for those who stepped up early on a Sunday to volunteer. I also have a big thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for the two Sunday breakfast meals and many of the Friday dinners. You re help is truly valued and I know the club appreciates you feeding us, and raising money. Among the many members that deserve thanks for all that they do, I want to give a special Thank You to Paul Creasman or custodian of 6+ years who has work very hard for us seven days a week so that we may have a clean, sanitary, and nice place to spend our time. Paul s last day as our custodian was October 31, While we look forward to seeing you in the club, and hopefully more great shows, your services will be missed greatly. As always I leave you with this: I truly love this organization. The Fraternal Order of Eagles spends countless hours supporting, and raising money for the neighborhoods and charities which we love. It is my opinion that the West Seattle Eagles Aerie 2643 can set the example for what all clubs should strive to be. Let s be friendly and welcoming to our guests, to our visitors, and to our new membership. If you see someone who might be a new face, chances are they are a new Brother or Sister, say hi and let them know why you love your club. Submitted in Liberty, Truth, Justice, and Equality: Worthy President: John S. Ledeman 8
9 Brothers & Sisters Wow you blink and it s fall and cold outside. At least the trees are in full fall color! Gorgeous! I d like to thank all the volunteers for all the wonderful meals and events which have been going on at the club. It s so nice to see people enjoying a meal, watching a football game and just enjoying each other s company. District 5 is at West Seattle this month on the 17th. It would be great to see some new faces. Joint meeting starts at 11am and the separate meetings start after that. Please come join us. Thanksgiving is coming up on the 22nd. Volunteers will be needed in the prep work on Wednesday and on Thanksgiving day. Sign up sheets are in the social room. The Auxiliary is changing our second meeting from the 15th to the 8th so the hall is available to watch the Hawks on Thursday night football taking on the Packers! Myself and crew will be selling Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches with fries or tots (haven t decided yet) for $8. Come up and watch some football and have a meal. The kids Christmas party is December 9th. Please have your children color the picture in the newsletter and get it to the club if you d like them to participate. All for now, Yours in Sisterhood Linda Fittro Madam President A very special Thank You to our Aerie brothers for the pizza and the wonderful rendition of singing Happy Birthday to us for our birthday!!
