1 ST LUCY S SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Friends, We are all struggling to come to grips with this profound tragedy. Elisa, Martin and Maria have been such a source of inspiration for us all at St Lucy s over the years. Many parents gathered at Holy Name Church this morning and staff joined in a wonderful show of support for each other. I have been bombarded with expressions of support and love. Maria touched so many people s lives. No one was better known or more loved at St Lucy s than Maria. Over the past 24 hours, a stream of stories have been shared about Maria s generosity. How one person could have had such an effect on so many people is remarkable. Elisa and Martin were bright, creative, wonderful children with uniquely beautiful personalities.they were adored by their Mum! I will be doing an interview with the 7.30 Report (ABC) tonight. We gave the media a film of our prayer service today. I would like to invite families to a short prayer service and supper on Friday evening at 7.00pm. I will keep you informed of any funeral details. School will be back as usual tomorrow. Please keep the family in your prayers. (Isaiah 41:13) At this time of grieving in our St Lucy s family, our faith tells us that we are not alone. The constant, life-giving love of our Father God; the warm, brotherly love of our travelling companion, Jesus, and the powerful, resuscitating, life-force of the Holy Spirit, are all beside us and among us, as we strive to support one another, and walk on. Jennifer Gregory CREATIVE ARTS NEWS Recently, the good people of St Ives Shopping Village kindly offered St Lucy s a two week Gallery spot to showcase art work created at our school by students past and present. The aim is to increase awareness of St Lucy s throughout the community, and showing people the wonderful, and unique talents of our students. If you get a chance, pop over to St Ives Shopping Village. The exhibit starts on the ramp near The Living Room cafe. All our after school Creative Arts Projects begin this week. A reminder to parents of enrolled students that you are invited to come to your child s arts session NEXT WEEK (Week 3) to watch and join in the fun! See you there! We welcome Year 3 Abbotsleigh Girls to our school over the coming six weeks where they will share Visual Arts and Drama classes with our students from Osma and Bologna classes. 4 St Lucy s School Key Word Sign Basic Workshop The workshop covers the use of Key Word Sign and natural gesture to assist individuals who have difficulties with receptive and/or expressive communication. This workshop is relevant for anyone living or working with a person with communication difficulties including families, teachers, health professionals, child care workers and volunteers. No previous signing experience is necessary. Kathryn McKenzie is our keynote speaker. Other presentations will cover guardianship, legal issues and the complaints process. We will also have updates on progress in implementing NDIS.
