1 The Side Draft Volume 20, Issue 09 September 2013 Chairman s Message Steve Hack The start of September means we are close to several fun events in the Queen City Chapter. We will start our month with an early monthly meeting. Our September meeting will be moved forward to Tuesday, September 10 th at Barb and Jerry Hilbert s home. The Hilbert s meeting is always well attended with Corvettes lining his driveway and the car owners lining up for a great meal. Be sure to drive your fun car to the meeting and help the Queen City Chapter attain the Top Flight Award again in One of our great members, Ron Whitacre, has had some recent battles with health but is feeling better. Feel free to call Ron and say hi. Our annual family picnic will be Sunday, September 22 th at Fernbank Park in Saylor Park. This event is held rain or shine, and we have our regular picnic shelter reserved in case the weather does not cooperate. Please remember to sign up for the picnic at our September meeting, or call me before the 15 th so we will know how much fried chicken to order. As always last names beginning with A-M bring an appetizer or side dish to share; and N-Z bring a dessert. The club will supply soft drinks but if you would prefer a more adult oriented beverage bring your own. Two short weeks after the picnic we are hosting our chapter meet at Columbia Chevrolet. Thus far we are filled on cars, and lacking on judges. Please register to help out, earn some judging points, and have a fun filled Saturday. Registration forms for the October 5 th event are in the driveline, and on our website. The Clermont County located Pumpkin Run is the same weekend as our chapter meet, so be sure to finish your chores in time to attend both. 2 Chairman s Message (cont d) November will be our officer election month and every position on the board is up for election. If you are interested in volunteering to take on one of these positions, or if you have questions of the duties involved in any position please contact Mike Hack for information. Our chapter is already well on the way of planning our 2014 Swap Meet. The Swap Meet Committee will be meeting regularly and all members are welcome to attend the meetings. Information and meeting schedules will be posted on our site and discussed at the meetings. Steve August 2013 Meeting Minutes Mike Hack The August 2013 meeting of the Queen City Chapter of the NCRS was hosted by Dan and Beverly Lobaugh at his home / garage. Dan has a very nice workshop to keep his cars in top condition and Dan was more than gracious by feeding the membership a great feast. Steve Hack began the meeting by thanking Dan for hosting the event. Steve also thanked Jerry Hilbert (who was absent) for once again supplying tables and chairs for our meeting. Otto Takacs then mentioned the possibility of having a banner printed to advertise the swap meet in 2014, and that the town of Montgomery will allow a temporary sign for 7 days. Otto asked that any members with contacts in the sign business to research the possibility. Wayne McKee gave the treasurer s report and mentioned that each mailed newsletter costs the club $1 for printing and postage, we are around 35 members that receive the newsletter this way. Wayne asked that any member who would like to change the way they receive their newsletter please notify him. The club then voted to accept the treasurer s report. John Ballard, our judging chairman, stated that the QC Chapter was well represented at the NCRS National and that there will soon be a for sale board on the NCRS website. Cont d Minutes..continued John also asked that the members send in their registration for our QC Chapter meet, as we have more cars to judge than judges. Dale Maris took the. floor and explained that he is working on our website after the crash of the National site that took out all chapter sites. He also asked that if anyone has any ideas for the website to let him know. Joe Eyl spoke of the tech session August 10 th at Dana Banfield s home, and said that there were 14 Corvettes driven down. Joe thanked Dana for his hospitality and great tech session and judging seminar. Steve Barrett is also working on a road tour for our chapter and has arranged for members to meet at the McDonalds on Montgomery Road at 8:00 on the morning of September 28 th to venture to the Wilmington Mile. Steve also spoke about the Hot Rod Race tour that will be at Indianapolis Raceway park on the 10 th of September from Steve has also arranged a meeting at the park and ride on 128 at 6:00 in the morning on the 10 th. George Swartz mentioned that our friend Ron Whitacre is undergoing chemo and to please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Wayne and Steve then presented the club with the NCRS Top Flight Chapter Banner that we received at the National event, Wayne will keep this until the club can use it for any events. This banner will need to be present at our Chapter Meet, Swap Meet, and any other Corvette functions our chapter attends. Steve Hack then stated that Dave Schwoeppe has nothing left at his warehouse except for water, and we will need plates, napkins, silverware for our chapter meet and picnic. Steve asked that if any members have such items that belong to the club to bring them to a meeting for this use. Next, the members talked about the Carlisle show [passed] and the September 3 rd Swap Meet Committee meeting [passed]. Steve Hack then mentioned the September meeting will be moved forward to the 10 th at Jerry Hilbert s home and that the club picnic will be on the 22 th of September [the same day as the Kenwood Country Club Car Show]. Steve also mentioned our normal policy to achieve perfect attendance a member must attend either the September monthly meeting or the picnic. Cont d The Side Draft Page 2
