HAPPY 2017! The New Year is well on its way and our annual fundraiser is coming up quick! We have finished the 2017 Baby Times Calendar, thanks to the perseverance of Stephanie Adams who edited and re-edited it while performing the duties of the mother of the groom. A special shout out for Stephanie! Kynlon and Jessica spearheaded our Online Rummage Sale and raised about $641. The money goes towards maintaining the Maternal League's website. The website is continually being updated. Also, thanks to Marie Dowling! We have a new FaceBook page! Hey! Please, take the time to visit our website and FaceBook page. The Club has done many good deeds: providing food for Safe Kids Safety Showers, baking cookies for Regional One s NICU family Christmas party, and collecting diapers for the Shelby County Health Department. These good deeds would not happen without your hard work and generosity. A special thanks to each of you! The Casino Night Fundraiser is Friday, March 3. The casino committee has been working hard planning a fun and profitable evening. To make this a successful fundraiser, the committee needs each member to participate! 1. Sell or buy 2 tickets 2. Donate an item to the auction (Contact person: Debby Stephens) 3. your guest list to lapalazola@yahoo.com; Invitations will be sent January Come and have a good time! We will be having a last minute workshop for our Casino Night Fundraiser being held on Friday, March 3. Our workshop will be at Louise Palazola s, 315 E. Cherry Circle, 38117, on Wednesday, February 15, 11:30a-1:30p. Come, visit, and help with the Casino Night decorations. Kynlon Sherrill and Karen Klemis will design the center pieces for us to assemble. Lunch will be provided. This will be a perfect opportunity to purchase tickets or make a donation if you have not already done so. DIRECTORY Bring a package of newborn, small size, or adult disposable diapers to Meet Maternal Night! Diapers will be donated to those in need through the Shelby County Health Department. With the help of her daughter, Anne Zachry is working hard on a much needed yearbook directory. If you have a change in your contact information (home or cell numbers, address, ) and haven t updated anyone, please, or call Anne Zachry, annezachry@gmail.com or or Colette Christie, coletteachristie@aol.com or , with that information. 2 Page 2 Our spring fundraiser is fast approaching! We will be hosting a Casino Night party on Friday, March 3rd from 6:30pm-10:00pm. The event will be held in the Cheney Parish Hall at Church of the Holy Communion (4645 Walnut Grove). The committee has been hard at work making plans and securing sponsorships ($13,000+!). Now we need YOU- we are asking each member to purchase at least two tickets to the event. Invite your friends and family to purchase tickets as well! Go to our website to order tickets via PayPal, with a check or credit card at our February 15 meeting, or you may mail in a check to our PO Box. Tickets are $75 each and include two drink tickets, a buffet, chips for gambling as well as special guests and performances. We have already sold eight tables! If you would like to purchase a table, let us know ASAP so we can plan accordingly. A table of eight is $700. In addition to reserved tables, there will be general seating provided around the room. Help us advertise our event as well. 3 Page 3 Maternal League Christmas Party! Members celebrated the holiday season with food, fun and fellowship, Wednesday, December 14 at the home of Karen Klemis. "Dirty Santa" gifts were piled under the Christmas tree, there was delicious food provided by attending members, and of course, the spirits were re laxed and happy with holiday beverages! Members in at tendance were Carolyn Shanks, Kynlon Sherrill, Susan Helms, Barbara Elliott, Midge Weinberg, Debby Stephens, Ann Shorter, Stephanie Adams, Marie Dowling, Greear Trew, Louise Palazola, Cheryl Tad dia, Diane Leopold, Colette Christie, Allison Musick, Anne Zachry, Marci Russell, Diana Brewer, and, of course, Karen Klemis.

4 Page 4 REGIONAL ONE NICU CHRISTMAS PARTY! THE MATERNAL LEAGUE DID IT AGAIN! Louise, On behalf of the March of Dimes volunteers and the families and staff of Regional One Health, thank you to The Maternal League of Memphis for the outstanding contribution of cookies contributed to the Holiday with Santa Party. I really think the ladies outdid themselves this year with the assortment and volume of cookies received. It was absolutely amazing and delicious. It was so funny watching people trying to make a choice whether or not to get all of the varieties of goodies that they truly wanted to. (they were trying so hard not to be greedy). So of course we encouraged folks to go for it and they did! We had almost 50 people in attendance. They ate cookies at the party and we provided containers to take their favorite cookies home. Today we are serving round 2 of cookies to families attending the Transition to Home Class and to staff that would like to sample some as well. I added a coffee and hot cocoa bar to round out today s festivities. So all told you have provided 2 days of cookie goodness to us this Christmas which is really wonderful. Special thanks for my personal Christmas gift. It was a sweet surprise and I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. So again, Louise please relay our sincerest thanks to each of the fabulous women who baked their hearts out for the families and caretakers of the babies this Christmas season. You truly helped to make the event a success. We will acknowledge the Maternal League as a community supporter of the program in our forthcoming 2016 Annual Report. Congratulations to Stephanie Adams on the marriage of her son Trey to Sara Weddington! Deepest sympathies to Pat Gill whose mother, Addie Bess Key, passed away on Christmas Day. She was 99 and was a feisty lady all her life. Condolences, also, to Stephanie and John Adams whose medical partner and best friend, Dr. Lynn Conrad, died December 30 from yellow fever that he contracted from the yellow fever vaccine. 5 Page 5 We will hold this fun event again in April at Diana Brewer s beautiful home. We haven t nailed down a date, but we want all members to be thinking of a guest to invite. We will have more details, soon! Can t wait to share Maternal and our service to the community with new ladies! BABY TIMES CALENDAR 2017 Our Baby Times Calendar 2017 is ready for proofing. We will be distributing 1,500 calendars to families in need through the Shelby County Health Department, Safe Kids Safety Showers, the NICU at Regional One Health, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Rachel Kay Stevens Therapy Center. The Online Rummage Sale continues. We will continue this fundraiser until we reach our goal of $1,000. Go through your attics, garages, anywhere that you store treasures. When you select some items that you would like to donate to the Online Rummage Sale, contact Kynlon Sherrill, khsherrill@att.net.
