Slama and Nesamony Exchange Student Introduction Two PharmD exchange students are currently at UT. They are in their final year of the program and are currently doing their rotations. They spent some time in Dr. Nesamony s lab and are currently getting retail pharmacy experience. Dean's Report Dean Early International Relationships o UT CPPS has a relationship with University of Szeged in Hungary We want to send our students there for rotation experiences Open to PharmD students only o This year is the first time we have more than 75 students in the graduate program. This is a benefit from international connections that we have.
o The college currently has a relationship with North Sichuan University in China. We have had their faculty come here and still have a student here. Their Dean will also be visiting later this year. o The college also has a relationship with Saudi Arabia, and they want to send students here for our residency program. o We are currently talking with a school in Japan and building a relationship there. Signing ceremony with Japan on October 29 th Dean Early would like to have students present at the event This will most likely have more emphasis on research and the graduate program since Japan doesn t have a pharmacy school The college is nearing the end of the process for finding someone to fill Dr. Hinko s positon. Hopefully there will be news soon and Dean Early will keep us updated on this. Dr. Hinko Suggestion Box o No Suggestions this month ExamSoft Feedback o The Dean s Cabinet has come up with a way to give feedback on ExamSoft. Students can send any ideas/suggestions/feedback to Dr. Powers (mary.powers@utoledo.edu) Food Pantry o Christian and Dr. Hinko looked into the possibility of having a food bank on this campus for students in need. There is no initiative here yet, we are going to wait and see how the food bank on main campus works before we expand it here. The one on main campus is available for students from HSC to use if they are in need. WO 1227 o There is room in the office for all organizations to leave forms/information such as membership forms or fundraiser flyers on main campus for the pre-professional students to access. Talk to Dawn LePla if you have questions about this. Student Leadership Retreat Recap o Thirty-eight students attended o A survey will be sent to those who participated, but initial response seemed to be very positive.
Jeff Barton Development Report Homecoming o October 25 th is the game o On October 24 th UT recognizes an outstanding alum from each college at a dinner event. This will be at 6pm in the Auditorium in the Student Union. o There is a pre-gala event for pharmacy at 4pm in the Student Union. o Jerry Wisler of the class of 1979 is the recipient this year for pharmacy. o Pharmacy will have 8 tables for the event, and wants to have students there. Each executive board member of student council will be invited, and a few other students as well. December 7-8 th Midyear in Anaheim o December 7 th UT will be holding an alumni dinner, so if anyone is going to Midyear let Jeff know and you can be included. o December 8 th There will be a pharmacy alumni reception at convention area, and this is open to anyone. o If you are attending Midyear keep these events in mind. They are free for students, and food will be served at both. October 29 th Career Day Event o This is not just for graduating students. Some people are looking for interns as well. o 9-10am is just for open to P4s o 10am-12pm is open to all students o Employers may have interviews from 1-4pm if they schedule them. o CVS is holding a lunch for P4 students. o A representative from Rutgers will be having a lunch for anyone who is interested in the Rutgers PharmD fellowship. More information will be provided about this in the future. Conduct Committee Report o Committee has not met yet this semester for any cases. o Student of the month for September has been selected. It is Kulvinder Nagra. o Keep others in mind for October student of the month and make sure to nominate fellow students.
Secretary's Minutes Kyle Baily motioned to approve. Sean Hackett seconded Treasurer's Report Money was used for cleaning supplies for microwave, but nothing has changed other than that. Old Business Microwave Updates o Cleaning supplies, sign, and organizational involvement. Supplies have been purchased A sign will be placed near it to ask people to be responsible for any mess instead of organizations being in charge o Possibility of 2 nd microwave purchase & location The Alumni Affiliate is interested in purchasing a second microwave for main campus, we just need to find a place to put it first. A possible location is in the hallway between the biology labs and WO 1227 if we could anchor it there somehow. PPO representative can bring it up to the PPO council to see if they have any ideas, and also talk to Deb about it. Student Organization Calendar Updates Danielle C/Rachel o Six organizations have not sent any dates for the calendar please send those when you get a chance AMCP, AZO, LKS, SCCP, AAPS, PLS o We will make monthly printouts, and send copies to Pam to out. o This calendar can be used to plan future meetings and events to avoid conflicts between organizations. Constitution Voting (additional meeting date) o PSC needs to approve constitutional changes for next semester so we can be approved to be an umbrella organization. o The changes have been made, they just need to be voted on. o Matt will send out an with the changes so everyone can see them prior to the meeting o The meeting will be held October 20 th at 4pm o We need one representative from each organization at the meeting. Student representatives also get a vote so please try to make it because we need to meet quorum in order to vote on changes. New Business Professional Development Workshops o There is no interest in doing this so it will no longer be pursued Stress Month
o We want to try to do this again, but last year was not very well attended because February was too stressful. January might be a little better for everyone o A committee will be formed to start planning stress month for this year. Committee John Wierzbicki, Kelsey Dorka Talk to your organizations to see if anyone would be interested in being on the committee. Addressing Student Concerns o Pharmacy Advisory Council members weren t sure that student concerns were properly addressed, or that students knew how to express their concerns. o We need ideas to get the word out that PSC is available to let student concerns be heard We could possibly hold a town hall/open discussion type meeting to allow people to throw out their ideas and opinions Problem if there isn t good attendance/representation We can start working on getting an event together and get feedback from organization and classes to see if they would want to do this. Suggestions could be submitted anonymously through online polling tools and could be addressed at the meeting. There is technology that could allow people to text or somehow submit questions anonymously during the meeting that could be used. Committee to look into this Kelly Gaffney, Andrew Schneider, Josh Jacobs Event dates to remember Homecoming Gala October 24 th 62 nd College of Pharmacy Fall Formal November 15 th o Every organization has the opportunity to give one award (outstanding member, etc.) for that night so all organizations can get involved Three minute segment to present award, not anything too long Danielle Pendice, Katie Groh, or Jon Fowler if you re interested o Will have a photo booth this year and are trying to make it more social o Registration opens on October 15 th, tickets are $15 for single, $25 for couple 2 nd Annual Students vs Faculty/Alumni Basketball Game Friday February 20 th (5-8pm)
