TUESDAY, September 11, 2018 OUR NEXT COUNCIL AND LADIES AUXILIARY MEETING, ROSARY 7:15 P.M., MEETING 7:30 P.M. R & R meeting will be the same day with lunch at noon. Retired? Come and join us. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. - Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV) Brothers, thank God it s Monday. We might view work as a curse, meaningless, or even a means to an end; but this is not so. The good life involves good work, and work provides divinity. God created work to be fulfilling, purposeful, to be able to serve one another, to develop your character, and to glorify His name. Thank God it s Monday, so you can work. Brothers, thank you for everything you do. Even if your work seems insignificant to you, you are making a difference. Thank you all for coming out to the various events in August. Don t forget that we have Oktoberfest on September 15 th and the PDD Drive throughout the month of October. You can sign up at any meeting to volunteer for great causes. Also, the O Hara Operating Company (LLC), the rental arm of the BOC, needs volunteers! With members changing locations and other health related issues, we are understaffed when it comes to monitors for rentals and open house. These events pay for the utilities and capital projects for the hall that we use weekly. If you would like more information and/or would like to help out, contact Joe Mouton. With that in mind, this is my second year in office. The first year was focused on observing and learning more about our organization and how things are ran. This year will be concentrated on the restructure of our council, membership involvement, and community involvement. It will be a tough road, but with perseverance and patience, anything can be done. We just ask for everyone s participation; whether it s building up the council, or constructively criticizing our actions. If there are no complaints, then we are not doing our job correctly. Expect phone calls and long conversations, because your voice matters. You joined O Hara Council 4387 of the Knights of Columbus for a reason, and we want to know why and how we can use your talents to make a difference. On that note, we have BOC meetings every 1 st Tuesday, General Meetings every 2 nd Tuesday, Family Dinner this 1 st Thursday, hall clean up on the 3 rd Tuesday, and Happy Hour every 3 rd Friday. Everyone is invited to all of our events and thank you to all those who volunteered thus far. In closing, Brothers, may the LORD protect you and guide you in this journey which is life. It was a great success only because of the hard work that was performed by all. Because we will be involved in some other projects we will have future meetings: September 11, 2018 November 13, 2018 December 11, 2018 Please come to the very important meetings, I sure need your help and input in the events. Bill Aguirre President Family Dinner Last Chance The September 6 th Family Dinner will be the last one of the year!!! Join your friends for chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, salad, and cake with ice cream. Dinner is served from 5:30 6:30 to the first 50 entering the door. Cost is $10 per person. Thanks to all who have attended the Family Dinners this year. In October, the PDD (Tootsie Roll Drive) chairman will host an Italian Dinner with all proceeds going to the PPD Drive. Be sure to mark your calendar to participate in the primary principle of the Order CHARITY. Check the October newsletter for details.

3 Oktoberfest The GERMAN AMERICAN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION (GACA) and the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS R & R Club invite you and your friend s to the Oktoberfest that is being held on September 15 th at the O Hara Knights of Columbus Hall located at 5111 East 112 th Terrace, off of Grandview Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The doors open at 5:00 PM, for Social Hour and Dinner will be served from 6 PM to 8 PM. Music by the Polka Dots Band will play from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Blautaler Schuhplatter will perform throughout the evening. German food & desserts featuring, ala carte selections of: Schnitzel, Usinger s Bratwurst & Knackwurst, German Potato Salad, Bavarian Sauerkraut, Red Cabbage and Assorted Deserts. There will be a $5.00 cover charge in advance; RSVP by September 10 th, by making a call to Lynn Fleming at: (816) The cover charge will be $8.00, at the door without a RSVP. Kids under 19 years of age are not required to pay the cover charge, when accompanied by their parents. The Knights of Columbus will be selling the advanced $5.00 tickets after the masses on September 1 st and 2 nd and after the masses on September 8 th and 9 th.

If you are intrigued by our SUL and would like to learn more, reach out to me. Thank you for your time and attention. TOOTSIE ROLL TIME Next month is our time to shine once again. Our council has a long history of supporting Persons with Developmental Disabilities through our annual Tootsie Roll Drive, along with other fundraiser events. For the past several years, we have raised $$$$.00 in support of the Cardinal Glennon Hospital, in St Louis and our local St. Catherine s SPRED Group. When the public sees our yellow vested Knights and families each October, they are familiar with our charitable program and are eager to help. Now I am asking for your help, for several reasons, our volunteers for this program has been dwindling. Please remember that the first principle our Order is Charity. Your help, in any manner, is needed to continue this endeavor. Monetary donations made out to KofC-PDD are encouraged as well. There will be Sign-Up Sheets this month and next, at the Council Hall for members and families to support. Please consider a 2 Hour donation of your time in October at one of Our 2 Walmart Locations. There will also be a Kick Off Dinner where you can lend support and, or personal checks. Your support for the PDD Program is greatly appreciated. Schedule

5 O'Hara Operating Company (LLC) Urgently Needs Help The LLC is the rental arm of the Bishop O'Hara Corporation (BOC) and urgently needs your help in monitoring "Rental Events." Currently, there are 10 volunteer members available (due to unique circumstances, 2 are generally available only for Quinceañera rentals and 1 is only available after 9 p.m.). Each rental requires 2 monitors. There is also a need for more members to staff "Open House" every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, this is to show the hall to prospective renters and complete the rental contract with a new renter (currently there are about 10 members available, 2 of which also monitor hall rental events). To avoid undue burden on the few, 2 separate pools of each (Hall Monitors and Open House) would be ideal. One need not be a regular attendee at Council Meetings to volunteer for either group. Any council member in good standing; dues current; are eligible. Rental income is what makes it possible to cover the basic operating and routine maintenance expenses of the hall.
